今日去開依頭做野,揾間野好野食下。點知中大伏。食左個burger同egg benedict。諗住見個賣相幾好景又幾靚。應該都唔差。點知係惡夢既開始。首先個burger啲包係唔熱,個內部求其煎下,脆都唔脆。連中間舊肉都唔熱。我要medium rare, 唔係要medium cold。味道普通都不得了。食唔到落去,淨返一半。得啲薯條係正常。因為就咁炸。冇技巧可言。另外果個benedict同樣恐怖,我係叫smoke salmon benedict, 個三文魚又腥,啲包就淋哂。啲菜又唔新鮮。對不起,真係好差。浪費左咁靚既景。

Went to Stanley Plaza today for their display. I wanted to dine in but it was surprisingly full given the current outbreak so I ordered the 2 Macrons for takeaway.  Both macrons were beautifully crafted and visually appealing. Both Macrons have a lovely soft texture and the fillings were not too sweet.  However the base was stuck quite firmly and I couldn't separate it so I kinda have to eat the top part with the fillings and finish the bottom part separately. The Red Raspberries were surprising

The Red Raspberries were surprisingly sweet. However, it was the Green Apple filling at the central that was much more sour that I thought. I guessed if I ate it together with the cream and macron shell it would have been just right but as I mentioned, since it stuck to firmly with bottom, attempting to separate nearly broke the whole macron, making us having to eat the components separately. Overall, it was still great.

今日約左一班朋友行山,由鰂魚涌行去大潭三個幾鐘。到左大潭緊係即刻飛去赤柱醫肚啦。Stan Cafe門面有好多唔同款色蛋糕選擇,就係咁我地被吸引去食個Brunch。Brunch Menu對於有小朋友一齊食就覺得選擇唔算太多。法式麵包同鹽味牛油就真心要比幾個讃👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻芒果帶子紅菜頭沙律,正!好清新,帶子又新鮮,係一款好開胃嘅小食。homemade蕃茄醬意大利麵又係冇得彈。蕃茄好香麵質感亦都好好。橄欖油芝士松子長通粉都好出色,香口又唔漏。腸仔薯條。咪睇佢好似好寡,真心講兩條法式香腸比預期中好味。呢餐雖然比較貴,但勝在好味道,有機會會再泥食!

As recommended by a gourmet friend, we celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary at Stan Cafe. We were seated by the window with a fantastic view of Stanley bay. As recommended by a gourmet friend, we celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary at Stan Cafe. We were seated by the window with a fantastic view of Stanley bay. While one of our favorite dish, Bouchot Mussels Meuniere, was not available today, we ordered Burgogne Snails and Steak Tartar as Starters, and Slow-cooked Black Cod on risotto and Duck Confit as Main. Of them, the steak tartar was the best beef I had in years - both the taste and texture were excellent. The snails had strong flavor of garlic and Parsley butter and were very good too. The fish and risotto were also done right and good but unfortunately, the Duck Confit albeit tasty was a bit too dry. The dessert - Chocholate Fondant - was rich but excellent and the Ginger Cafe au Lait was made just right. Overall, a most memorable dinner with excellent food and service. Thankyou, Stan Cafe!
題外話/補充資料: The four-hour complimentary parking at Stanley Plaza was certainly a plus. It is recommended that restaurant goers would make more time to walk around and enjoy the "still unspoiled" part of Hong Kong either before or after meals.

據聞呢份牛肉他他係呢度既名物~ 一場黎到我地亦當然叫埋試下啦! 呢份牛肉他他仲伴有火箭菜同埋Stan Cafe薯條~ 牛肉他他輕輕用醬汁伴勻, 味道微微酸甜但唔會蓋過生牛肉既味道. 生牛肉十分鮮嫩, 食落一d都唔腥, 好味! 平時我地都麻麻地火箭菜陣草青味, 但夾埋牛肉他他食又ok~ 而薯條亦非常香脆, 好惹味~ 整碟菜式都好出色!

藍貝亦係我地其中一款最鐘意既食物~ 可惜唔係度度都有得食, 有時仲要配合季節同時間先食得到, 咁難得見到呢度有, 亦二話不說就叫咗! 呢款藍貝係最愛既法式細細隻品種肉質最鮮嫩, 加上最基本既牛油烹調方法, 簡簡單單加埋天然海水鹹味已經好好味! 連埋炸得香脆兼灑上香料既薯條, 點唔點汁食都好好味! 呢個藍貝令我地食得又飽又滿足~ 超讚!

就在呀菲去完琳琅滿目既甜品櫃揀飯後甜品之後, 侍應就將呀比一早預訂好既生日蛋糕拎出黎~ 個蛋糕上面d生日字眼都幾佔位, 但又有d潦草, 仲好似將"Mami"寫錯咗做"Mahi"... 哈哈哈, 不過呢個blueberry cheesecake都幾好味! blueberry味係新鮮唔似藥水的, 芝士味濃而不膩, 配埋塊大大曲奇餅底都好好味~ 不過我地實在太飽食唔晒, 店員都好好幫我地包走.
呢一餐赤柱法國生日餐真係充滿驚喜又好滿足! 法式菜式正宗又好味, 難得佢食物質素高但環境就型格優閒路線, 唔洗著到懶斯文去高級餐廳都食到地道法國菜~ 餐廳仲居高臨下可以飽覽赤柱海景~ 今次真係要比個叻字呀比喇!

朱古力慕絲:好濃朱古力味微甘,慕絲好滑,底層嘅脆脆米通餅底增加口感,面頭一塊金色朱古力!

蛋白拿破侖:幾層拿破侖夾蛋白忌廉,拿破侖餅好酥脆,配蛋白忌廉唔乾,又滑又脆!

泡芙拿破侖:只有一層拿破侖上面係忌廉同三粒泡芙,賣相好靚!泡芙好靚,又鬆脆!配軟滑忌廉唔乾好味!

第一次食拿破侖覺得好味,之前都係同事調職下食連鎖式餅店嘅拿破侖,又乾又重身,一啲都唔好味,自己揀嘅永遠唔會選拿破侖,估唔到今次機緣食到件驚喜拿破侖!

可惜好味但價錢貴,服務又唔算親切!應該唔會再試!

Dining options can be limited on the south side, and even then many restaurants are overpriced and mediocre. Our friend recommended the Stan Cafe for brunch so the 3 of us decided to come here early one Sunday at 11am to avoid the crowds. Even at 11am, we just managed to get the last table available because all of the other tables were all reserved!    Guess either make reservations in advance or come early like we did. The decor was simple and casual, and the seating was comfortable enough. The

The front part of the cafe sells French bread and pastries to go while the dining area is towards the back. As the cafe was on the top of Stanley Plaza, you get a nice view of Stanley Bay while you dine.

The owners are French so there's a mix of American and French dishes on the menus. There were 2 menus to look at: the regular brunch menu and the chef's suggestions which resides on a big black chalkboard. The waiter basically had to haul that huge board to every new table that needs to order. 
 Between the 3 of us, we decided to share the steak tartar with fries, the eggs benedict, and the perigourdine salad.

Baguette (free) - the baguettes here are pretty good as the outside was crispy but not too hard, and the inside was soft and full of flavor. My favorite place to get baguette is usually at DONQ, and I think these can give them a run for their money.

Steak Tartar with Fries ($258) - absolutely scrumptious! The steak tartar was fresh and finely made. It is raw so this speaks to the quality of beef used in this dish. You are tasting the natural flavor of beef, which was oh so good! Probably one of the best steak tartar I've ever had. A mound of arugula sat on top, providing a nice contrast in taste to the beef as its taste is naturally slightly bitter. I usually don't like arugula but I thought this went very well with the dish. The fries were good as well, but they were more of an afterthought.

Eggs Benedict ($98) - we wanted the eggs benedict with smoked salmon originally but they messed up our order and gave us the original one instead. They had already mess up once before by giving us another steak tartar even though we had ordered only one. The egg benedict came with 2 poached eggs with hollandaise sauce, sitting on top of a slice of bacon and wheat toast. The eggs were prepared perfectly as the yolk were still half runny on the inside. The sauce was delicous, and went very well with the bacon and toast. Even though it was good, it wasn't impressive like the steak tartar was.

Perigourdine Salad ($168) - mixed greens with foie gras, duck gizzard, dry duck breast. Perfect for a duck lover like me! 
 The salad was just lightly tossed with olive oil and a hint of vinaigrette to focus the flavors on the veggies and duck itself. The foie gras pate was rich and buttery which is delicious in moderation. The duck gizzard was chewy while the duck breast, which is cured (I thought it was iberico ham at first!), was fatty and yummy. The different textures and flavors of the duck went together very well in this salad dish.

The food was no doubt very good. The question we had in our minds was is it worth the price? They are marginal in my mind as the service can be better. Our waiter kept messing up our orders even though we were the only table in the restaurant, and the staff there weren't the most friendly bunch in the world. Let me put it this way - if you had to eat in Stanley, this would be a great choice; otherwise go eat on the other side of the island for more variety and choices.

We took a lunch there after having a walk in our beautiful Tai Lam Country Park. I am so lucky to have a friend who has lived in France for years and is a gourmet, knowledgeable in French food to be my companion for this meal.  - a sausage made with pork or goat intestine and thus has very strong ‘odor’. Of course, we Chinese eat every (or nearly every) part of an animal and used to such ‘odor’ smell and taste. We had this dish twice when we travelled in Paris. We were so glad have the opportunity to have this dish in Hong Kong, making us revisiting our memories of traveling in Paris. The sausage prepared by Stan Cafe which was served with french fries and salad looked attractive and beautifully pan-fried, though it was comparatively more coarse and less strong odor than those we had in Paris. We had tried two types of salads. One of which was the Perigourdine Salad with asparagus. This salad is originated from a place called Perigourd and is considered special as it has smoked duck breast and preserved duck giblets together some other ‘normal’ ingredients, such as greens and cheese. Another one was the goat cheese salad. We loved the goat cheese which was slightly grilled and presented on top of a tiny toast. The cheese was melting, goaty and fragrant. Absolutely amazing.

But, the dessert and coffee (Illy) were a bit disappointing. We had the chocolate eclair. The dough was a bit soggy. The filling should be more creamy and rich. Well, I am setting the standard according to the La Maison du Chocolat’s eclair. I am not sure if it’s a fair comparison as I haven’t compared to their prices and La Maison du Chocolat is a specialist in pastry.

It was a very memorial and happy lunch with lovely food, excellent harbour view, cosy ambience and the staff there are excellent!

Quiche, omelette, pesto pasta, duck andouillette. We came on a Sunday for lunch. One of us paid 100hkd for a "quiche" which was two tiny pieces of dry, savourless yellow things. Another paid also 100hkd for an omelette, made with 2 eggs nothing else, that makes 50hkd an egg, quite pricey. Pesto pasta was average, but for 130hkd, I would have expected something much better. My wife chose duck andouillete for 250hkd: it was ok but once again portion was very small.
Verdict: definitely not a place to dine in.

但原來食落又唔會好漏...出面塊皮煎到脆同好乾,食完唔會隻咀油, d肉又唔dry又好有鴨香!!

總括黎講野食都幾好味, 但價錢就貴左少少,可能因為係赤柱呢個遊客地方..
不過都服務同個view都值回票價啦~~


下次要試埋佢地d cake...好吸引!!

看朋友到Stan Café的相片,好吸引。便在平日,赤柱沒那麼人多時,來relax下。有得必有失,得到寧靜舒適氣氛,但食物(cakes)也零落。只有朱古力撻供應。看去只有三件,而且有點封乾了之感,便只飲飲咖啡,感受憂閑。Ginger Lait $40,好飲!西人薑,口味很出,沒有一般ginger latte,太重玉桂味,而失了薑味。Caramel Lait $40,ok。焦糖不太搶,又不會太甜。兩杯咖啡,口感很rich,奶充滿綿綿厚感!

Penne Pesto alla Genovese,Basil、Garlic、Parmeggiano、Pin Nuts and Olive Oil,$118。長通粉口感偏硬,醬汁味道不夠香濃,羅勒味不太突出,芝士味道又淡,口感有點油膩,整體味道都是一般。

Duck Confit Maison Samaran Toulouse-France with Sauated Potatoes and Garlic Salad,$198。油浸鴨腿以低溫慢煮的方式來烹調,鴨肉軟腍,肉味不算很濃,帶點脂香,薯仔也有鴨油香,整體是這天較好吃的一道菜式。

Slow Baked Sea Bass with Saffron Mashed Potato,$168,魚肉不夠嫩滑,而且沒有甚麼味道,水準一般。那加入藏紅花汁製的薯蓉相對較有味道,少許甜,竟然比魚還好吃吧。

最後也點了一份即製的甜品,French Toast with chocolate Valrhona sauce,$88,麵包只是輕輕的沾了一點蛋漿後煎,口感很油,味道又不夠香,塗上了朱古力漿後吃稍為好些。

整體來說,食物水準只是普通,但價錢是偏貴,也許是因為身處於赤桂地段吧。餐廳選擇不太多,迫著也要來吃。既然食物如此,蛋糕質素也不敢有太大期望。
