Was pleasantly surprised when I first visited Rex Wine & Grill so we came back especially for their beef wellington. It needs pre-ordering (without the need to pay deposit).

The monster creation is just as it describes as “ultimate &
luxurious”. They actually carved out the middle and stuffed Fois Gras pâte in it. The mushroom layer is mixed with black truffle. Finally a very buttery layer of puff pastry.

Chef Nathan Green would cut the beef wellington table side. You can see that the portion is as huge as a tree trunk. There is no question about the quality of the ingredients but it is way too rich for me, the fois gras pâté is a bit much. Seasoning is also a a bit overpowering so you can’t really taste the beef. The puff pastry was good but could be more flakey. Overall, I would go back to their steak/burger instead.

The triple cooked chips are the best. Even when you eat it hours later, it’s still crunchy on the outside!

Dessert is very disappointing. Bring back the pistachio ice cream please 🥲

Just had lunch today and liked their Lobster & Scallops Ravioli and Italian Scottona Steak very much. The steak has a very special flavor and texture. Both the atmosphere and service was quite good as well.We did not have any desserts today, may be we should next time.

阿林💬:同樣是45天熟成,Stone Axe Full Blood Australian Wagyu Striploin ($1790/520g) 的肉質明顯較為優勝,有熟成牛軟嫩的質感。烹調精確,呈現完美的medium rare,也保留了肉汁。整體尚算不錯,但沒什麼過人之處,近千八元一客不算值得。

甜品更帶我們直墮深淵。二人份的Apple Tarte Tartin ($280) 大件但難食。蘋果已屆mushy之境,而且揀選的品種或許水分多,撻皮完美吸收,同樣腍得可憐,一切即散,撻蘋分離。搭配的Chamomile Ice-cream味道頗重,開頭覺得幾特別,但越吃越感受到後勁有陣藥水味。我完全是本著不浪費的精神才能把它吃完。

Rex Wine & Grill is the latest addition to the Octavo Group with Chef Nate Green leading the team.

Tried their lunch menu and it was good. Their steak tartare with bone marrow toast was rich. The surprising factor is the pickles that are mixed in the steak tartare that helps to cut through the richness of the bone marrow toast. The burrata was creamy.

The 9+ Wagyu bavette steak was cooked well. Was both tender and juicy yet flavorful. The Rex burger was huge! The beef patty was nice but overall the burger is a bit too wet. Be prepared to get messy.

The star of the whole meal has to be the tripe cooked chips that are fried in beef oil. Oh my, they are so damn good! Crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Instead of calling them chips, they should be potato wedges instead as they are huge! If you are a chip/wedges lover, you have got to try this!

The pistachio ice cream with figs and the chocolate fondant were both rich and yummy.

Overall, it’s a great meal!

Price: HK$700 pp (lunch)

Revisit: 9/10 (want to try their beef Wellington!)

Wagyu bavette steak with chips. There were actually 3 cuts on the menu to choose from : bavette (abdominal muscles), striploin (aka sirloin), and ribeye (most marbling and flavorful). Picked the bavette for its leaner and tender texture.

First time visit. Be careful of the staircase, if you have mobility issue, it would be a problem. The entrance is nothing special but the ambiance inside is quite impressive. Great atmosphere for a steak house. Staff are attentive and services are ok, except it took a very long time to have our cocktails served, and no one seems understand what fernet branca is, until our guest went to the bar and point to the bottle on the shelf. Menu is very interesting with wide variety of choice. Amuse bouche is generous, almost like a standard potion. Meat quality is excellent and the choice is unusual. The portion of side dish is a bit too small. The potato chips are so crispy. 4 of us ordered 1 dessert to share, so surprise by the size and it’s actually good to share for more than 4 people. Although the interior is great, the toilet is disappointing, hygiene is ok but it’s not part of the restaurant, just provided by the building management, it’s just not really tidy. Overall it’s good and hope it will continue to get better.

再一次去這裏吃它的午餐, 價錢不變, 但也許是因為經營日子久了, 管理更順暢, 對比之前的光顧, 可以見到無論是頭盤或主菜, 菜式選擇差不多多了一個Double, 而且做法更多元化. 例如是女友點的頭盤Ravioli這種意式雲吞, Chef Nathan在雲吞內鑲了原塊Smoked Salmon, 看起來就是珍寶Sized的一顆, 用上刁草忌廉汁, 三文治魚籽和青口作配襯, 味道鮮香而不膩, 雲吞皮薄, 煙三文魚口感順滑, 有煙燻香味但不會死鹹, 見得到Chef Nathan的粗中有細. 我點的是經典的Beef Tartare, 用上日本雞蛋蛋香更濃, 牛肉肉香十足而口感同樣順滑, Pickles酸勁十足, 但配上表面佈滿牛骨髓, 咸香度極高的多士, 如此味道各走異端的兩類食材, 結合起來配合度高, 不比在Henry吃的遜色.主菜當然是它的牛扒, 和牛Flank Steak依然如上次吃的出色, 炭焦香脆, 肉香和油香依然是頂級, 肉質比我上次吃的更為肥美嫩滑, 女友吃得甚為滿意. 我點的則是來自南非Silent Valley的M5和牛Striploin, 雲石度比M9的Flank St

今次有少少失手的是, Striploin烤得有點過火, 本身希望是Medium Rare但這裏的頭尾部分似Medium多一點, 幸好沒有影響到肉香, 但作為頂級扒房, 我期待火候控制, 可以做到完美無瑕呢!

Amuse bouche-parsley walnut rosemary soup-nothing noteworthy

Bread / rice cracker / dip: Great as mentioned by other reviews

Tuna crudo: Some thought the smokiness masked the tuna flavor, others thought it was good

Steak tartare: Only positive comments re: addition of pickle, chunkiness, bone marrow toast

Pig's head pie: Overall interesting despite some comments saying it was rather oriental

Chips: Big but not hot enough

Lobster mac and cheese: Really fresh lobster and good amount of it

Italian striploin: Favorite amongst the 3, in terms of flavor and texture

Spanish ribeye: Least favorite - comments included being too hard, having a "steamed" smell, and only being able to taste the grilled flavor

Australian wagyu: Flavorful and wagyu-oily (although can be too overwhelming for some)

Finally trying this newly opened fancy steak house by Octavo group. Hands down the best dry aged steak I ever tried, the exclusive Italian scottana beef was so tender and well-marbled, absolutely scrumptious!
Also love the starter so so much, the tuna crudo was totally blew our mind away, the Smokey flavour was so delicious yet so fragrant! The bone marrow toast was so crispy and taste so so good, went perfectly well with the steak tartare. The pig’s head pie is one of their signature too, I think this is worth trying if u first time come here.
The homemade icecream was so delicious, I wish I could have more!

Overall, this was such a divine meal, everything was mouth watering good, I’m missing that steak already! The ambience was good, the service was on point, chef Nathan came to say hi and explained the dishes to us, really appreciated it, we enjoyed this meal a lot, and definitely wanna come back again!

先講咗牛扒先喜歡食 dry-aged 扒的朋友呢間野確實會比到驚喜佢有日本,澳洲,美國,意大利嘅選擇。食嗰日全部都係45日 dry-aged由於想樣樣都食啲所以叫咗個meat locker包含咗全部國家呢個份量可以三至四個人食,都幾大份陪左個牛肉油炸嘅薯條本人最喜歡日本,意大利都唔錯不過個味好濃唔係個個人鍾意食。小食嘅就叫咗吞拿魚同埋帶子做功都相當精緻餐廳裝修都幾好,服務員態度一流甜品就叫咗個Trifle 和 Crepes Suzette

This is the latest venture of Chef Nathan 🎉 after leaving Henry in Rosewood. With all his fame and the Italian big boss, I have huge expectation on this new steakhouse. Turn out, it didn’t disappoint at all. I planned to do a la carte before going but their menu was actually quite extensive. So I gave their tasting menu a try😛𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝘁 was the least exciting thing in a steakhouse but they did a very decent job with 3 types of bread. My favourite was the rice cracker with cod fish dip❤️First up

First up on the menu was 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘂𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗲, essentially a consommé with octopus and herbs. There was also a salted black cod in the middle which light up the dish. A fair start🐙

Then, it was the 𝗥𝗘𝗫 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗲, one of the best tartare I ever had👍🏼 Not sure what kind of beef they used but it was absolutely top notch. It was fatty and tender which perfect texture. I love strong Tabasco kick that it didn’t steal the show but complemented the beef so well. The 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁 was another highlight. Fluffy and crunchy with nice charcoal aroma. A master piece that gave me every confidence to their steak🥩

The 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝗱𝗼 was like sashimi but carefully seasoned. The ingredients were top notch and the use of cumin spice was both clever and bold. Chef used it on the eggplant puree to add the flavour indirectly and mildly. A very original taste from the smoky bandit👨🏻‍🍳

The 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝗺 𝗞𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆 was amazing. The pungent flavour was stunning and unforgettable🤯 It was just WOW for its intensive gaminess and lambness. I can assure many will be scared away. But I thoroughly enjoyed this British dish that Chef brought to the menu. The spice, fat and gamey flavours were so intriguing that I could still recall it. Order it with caution and a strong red🍷 My 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗼 had great length that supported and elevated the flavour to another level. Just miss it so much.

This 𝗟𝗼𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 & 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗶 was the most and the least surprising dish of the night. Surprise because who would expect such a delicious pasta in a steakhouse? But at the same time, with the legendary Italian chef behind the helm, why the surprise⁉️ They use lobster bisque as the base which was brilliant! Remind me of the lobster bisque XLB in another Chinese restaurant opened by Bombana. Delicious innovation👍🏼

The tasting menu came with a 𝟰𝟱-𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗗𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗨𝗦𝗗𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗲-𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗲 from 44 Farms. Really not bad for this price out of every expectation. This steak was arguably the best I had so far in 2021, or even in years. That’s the magic of dry aging. It intensified the flavour, softened the meat and added flavour like magic✨

I especially loved the cheese and nutty flavour fermented during the process. It was so good and it elevated the steak to a whole new level. The fat was so important here. It was not oily but kinda chewy and it was the essence of the beef flavour. It also paired well with the 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗼🍷to ease the tannin and brought out the fruitiness to the fullness. Just amazing. What’s more, the bone 🦴Definitely my favourite part. It was extra grilled with amazing charcoal aroma and had the most tender meat. Just grab it on hand and enjoy it.

The three sides were 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗳 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀, 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶 and 𝗞𝗼𝗹𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶, 𝗙𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗱. Rather so-so and I expected a lot more from them🧐

As a British Chef🇬🇧 the pie making technique is in his blood. The 𝗪𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗶𝗴’𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 & 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗶𝗲 was perfectly made that the pastry was still very flaky and light even after Chef’s pouring a thick sauce. The pie was constructed with layers of pig head, black pudding and potato. The pig head was very flavoursome with nice and strong pork flavour. It was like pull pork in terms of texture but tenderer. The potato was very satisfying and absorbing all the flavour. Worth my money and definitely the stomach to stuff the pie in after the full meal❤️

Finally the dessert part. It was a nice 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗼𝘁 & 𝗣𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻 with perfectly caramelised crust on top. But the highlight is the 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼🍦So light and so refreshing. Very good to have it after a full meal. And the manager told us they have their own lab and gelato machine in the kitchen to invent all the new gelato😛 Can’t wait to try a new flavour. Also, thanks Chef for the treat! The Port was so good with the herbal and flowery gelato.

Dessert : Crepe $320 (around 4 crepes for one set ) 中咗三種唔同嘅酒佢早出嚟,如果四個人食你share都算抵食,又唔算難食可以一叫,但係如果兩個人食的話就可免則免, chocolate fondant , 失望中失望一啲特別都冇

總括而言可以咩都唔叫淨係叫扒& Cocktail 就得啦
