閏五月十一‧陰天 就在期待已久的Caprice超級飯局之前,約了師弟,來這裡談談大計。來這裡而不去酒吧happy hour,原意是因為是晚都將要飲酒,又是去到夜深的飯局,不如來個無酒精的hh,不過最後,也來了一人一杯啤酒,因為這裡也有酒賣。這裡的生啤得兩款選擇,啤酒容量好像不多,但拉得不錯,我的Stella Artois夠凍,泡沫夠滑,在周五喝一杯,談了自己的見解,也為之後的飯局打打底,賞心樂事。埋單70蚊,會合師兄及R,向Caprice方向行去。

之前響太古城食過Simplylife 午餐, 覺得普普通通。 今次黎試IFC呢間。入到去抬頭見到d牌全部都係sandwich,以為淨係得三文治賣,行到入去,見人食緊意粉先知原來有另一個menu。裏面比想像中暗,不過唔靜。 Setting 同太古城差唔多。 播法文歌,幾relaxing。麵包: 完全唔熱。 頗”奀” ~ 唔得.Parma Ham Rocket Salad with Peach and Pear (appetizer size): 黎到以為佢比錯左正常size。 原來appetizer size都幾大份。 Parma Ham比想像中好. Parma Ham Rocket Salad with Peach and Pear (appetizer size): 黎到以為佢比錯左正常size。 原來appetizer size都幾大份。 Parma Ham比想像中好. Roast左的梨原來連個咸的salad都幾好味。桃稍嫌生. 油亦稍多。
Roasted Spring Chicken with asparagus and new potatos: 繼續好大碟。塊雞好大,大到我有d懷疑究竟係咪spring chicken。不過雞肉好滑,皮脆,亦幾有雞味。露筍亦嫩,冇渣。薯仔亦好味。輾底塊大的磨菇好鮮味。食呢個spring chicken 幾日之前響Gvsto 食左個spring chicken,都冇呢到甘好味!

服務幾好,我地要求轉去第二張檯佢都好好幫我地執晒野過去。

總結: 中環無敵海景,野食大份,麵包唔ok 但Spring Chicken 好味,IFC終於有個唔會貴到喊的西餐. 唔響IFC唔會比笑. 響IFC就卑個笑佢啦~

有景觀, 食物美味, 用餐環境舒適, 服務不俗, 我每次來都必定要一至兩杯餐酒, 每人都只要大約二百元, 在ifc中, 這間餐廳算超值.我最喜歡這裡的黑豚豬扒, 味濃, 肉嫩, 汁豐!而其他食物也都不錯~

不論LUNCH或DINNER, 南瓜湯都是近來的心頭好. 作為頭盤的蕃茄芝士不錯, 可以再ENCORE. 只是等候MAIN COURSE的時間過長, 等了有廿多分鐘都沒有影. 值得一讚的是侍應很有禮貌, 清楚知道還有什麼COURSE未到, 兩次主動提出幫手催促廚房, 所以雖然等了頗長時間, 但感覺仍然良好. 在MAIN COURSE MENU驚見ENGLISH BREAKFAST, 一向喜好在晚餐時間吃早餐的感覺, 理所當然選了它. 味道沒有太大驚喜, 略油膩, 碟底全都是油. 試了羊批, 騷味不重, 對女仔而言, SIZE份量頗大, 吃多數口容易飽滯.以中環區的西餐價格比較, 實屬抵食之選!

試了羊批, 騷味不重, 對女仔而言, SIZE份量頗大, 吃多數口容易飽滯.

以中環區的西餐價格比較, 實屬抵食之選!

上次買了杏仁牛角包+合桃包 (小), 吃過番尋味! 昨天去完長洲買今天的早餐 - 合桃包 (大), $22! 切開八小份, 烘焗後...麵包不煙韌, 合桃多但不脆, 絕對失望! 唯有寄望下次....真想試試熱湯及其他厚麵包及 Danish!

Therefore when my high school buddy located me on Facebook, we decided that we had to meet up the next day and catch up on old times. She selected Simplylife Bread and Wine at IFC for an afternoon gathering. It was not as packed as the Starbucks nearby on a holiday afternoon. There is nothing better than being able to reunite with long lost friends. Therefore when my high school buddy located me on Facebook, we decided that we had to meet up the next day and catch up on old times.

She selected Simplylife Bread and Wine at IFC for an afternoon gathering. It was not as packed as the Starbucks nearby on a holiday afternoon. Self-service at the counter was the only option before dinner time, and I was quite impressed with the plethora of choices, including the eye-catching line-up of bakeries, from savory sandwiches to sweet pastries, and various soups, salads, loaves, and rolls. For a few minutes, I did feel like being in a bakery or bread bar in the US. But I also recalled that Simplylife was under Maxim's management, and to no surprise most offerings were similar to Starbucks’, only with a better presentation and a higher price.

I opted for a zucchini and mozzarella bread ($36) as zucchini was not as commonly used in Hong Kong as chicken and spinach or ham (and to be honestly the dry-looking ham and chicken sort of turned me off…). On the sweet side, the gorgeously glazed Apple Danish ($14) caught my eye. With those I also had a hot peach tea ($22), which was “simply” a peach-flavored tea bag with hot water.

The smiling staff was warm and nice, just like my zucchini bread after heated up and cut into bite-size pieces. Wasting no time I tried a piece of the zucchini bread. A mixed feeling struck me. Yes, the mozzarella was oozing, and yes, it was quite delicious, but somehow it wasn’t the crusty texture that I was hoping for. It was less crispy and less dense than the usual European/Italian bread that I had overseas. I recognized this textural difference quite often when sampling baguettes, French rolls, focaccia, etc. produced by local or Japanese bakeries. It seemed that most locals preferred softer, fluffier texture for all kinds of bread. I like soft bread when it comes to Hong Kong styled buns (like bolo buns), sweet rolls, or white bread. But for French or Italian bread, I want a crispy crust and denser innards. I am not saying one is better than the other. It’s just a personal preference.

Although I felt somewhat cheated by the texture, the mozzarella was able to give this bread some credit as it was plentiful and melting. The zucchini slices were pleasant to the eyes but did nothing to the palate as they were neither sweet nor crunchy. Nevertheless I did appreciate their attempt in choosing a less conventional ingredient.

The apple danish needed much more improvement than the bread. Contrary to the bread, the puff pastry was too dense and missing the flaky texture. A danish is worth-eating primarily because of the flaky and buttery crust, which this danish clearly lacked. The fresh and properly sweetened apple filling was enjoyable, but I could have ordered an apple pie at McDonald’s which would yield a similar apple flavor. I am not asking for the level of flakiness of Robuchon’s croissants, but for a bakery, you should be able to do better.

The good thing about this place was that the staff wouldn’t rush you to leave, and it’s quiet enough to carry a conversation. We spent the whole afternoon there, chatting while enjoying the views through the wide window without being interrupted.

Overall, I will give an OK 臉to the bread and a 喊臉 to the dessert. But the service and the space saved them. Together with the enjoyable afternoon with my friend, they got it lucky with a 笑臉 overall.

I've heard so many people saying that this is part of Maxim's operations - therefore, it must be bad. I don't understand the logic behind this theory. Maxim's has some pretty good restaurants or operations too - albeit some really poor ones as well! Each one is different. I don't see them selling bread or salads that are similar to Maxim's cake shops!Also heard its coffee is worst than chainstores like Pacific and Starbucks, which is nearly true. Also heard its coffee is worst than chainstores like Pacific and Starbucks, which is nearly true.
Yet others claim because its part of Maxim's, its using Starbucks coffee by default (since they're partners). That's very ironic, isn't it!

The coffee beans they use is of a high enough quality I think. The problem?
The baristas really need to pull the espresso shots properly. One guy I saw was definitely better than the other guy, with some pretty latte art, but overall it was still not good enough.

Had another double espresso the other day, it was poured like water and tasted like watery acid. Nearly Pacific coffee level bad! Was going to ask for a replacement or a 'refund'!

What a waste of coffee beans and the ultra expensive La Marzocco coffee machine in my opinion!

Refraining myself from giving a low score this time - but I've spent more than $50 for bad coffee here already. PLEASE MAKE ME A GOOD ONE NEXT TIME, BEFORE END OF APRIL 2009!

去大會堂聽音樂會之前,搭船去到中環,諗起IFC入面嘅Canteen,美心集團近排將快餐變身成為旗下的西餐廳 - Simplylife Bread & Wine。呢間與幫襯開又一城嗰間係姐妹店,未食都知水準有返咁上下,最近要今次呢間有埋海景兼open kitchen,格調更高雅。我地6:30已經去到,今次呢間入門口已經係bakery地帶,你可以買麵包飲品take away又得,亦有小小sofa同埋一張長枱,你可以兩個人喺張長枱對住個海景飲嘢,或者三五知己喺sofa度傾吓計食少少嘢。不過我地今晚係嚟 dinner,所以我地揀選入面嘅餐廳區。講到入面嘅餐廳,擺設同又一城嘅差不多,不過枱與枱之間會闊落啲,最緊要係個open kitchen,你會完全清楚睇到廚子喺入面嘅一舉一動。1. 我地6:30已經去到,今次呢間入門口已經係bakery地帶,你可以買麵包飲品take away又得,亦有小小sofa同埋一張長枱,你可以兩個人喺張長枱對住個海景飲嘢,或者三五知己喺sofa度傾吓計食少少嘢。不過我地今晚係嚟 dinner,所以我地揀選入面嘅餐廳區。

講到入面嘅餐廳,擺設同又一城嘅差不多,不過枱與枱之間會闊落啲,最緊要係個open kitchen,你會完全清楚睇到廚子喺入面嘅一舉一動。

1. Assorted Bread - 例牌麵包一藍,牛油一舊,我見佢地切開時已經要用九牛二虎之力,估唔到我食嘅時候仲慘,麵包係歐洲種,內軟外硬,硬如石頭,不過其實係整得出色嘅。

2. Parma Ham, pear and peach with rocket salad (starter size) 意大利風乾火腿、梨子香桃火箭菜沙律 - 香氣噴鼻、味道濃郁嘅Parma Ham,有酸酸嘅黑醋伴火箭菜,最關鍵嘅在於放咗兩種有各自甜酸味嘅生果 - 梨&桃,令到整道菜嘅甜酸得到適當嘅平衡,佩服佩服。亦都要提一點,如果唔特別要求,呢度菜係嘅份量係可以當main course,不過佢地可以serve as a starter,咁好似我地兩個人當一個小小地嘅頭盤就非常好了。

3. Tagliatelle, mixed chunks of beef and pork italian sausages, olive oil 意式牛肉及豬肉香腸闊條麵 - 呢道菜係用蕃茄煮嘅,佢地調較嘅酸度我認為係會較為適合西方人口味,不過其實味道不錯的 ; 意粉軟硬適中 ; 肉方面,我分別唔到牛肉同豬肉香腸嘅味道,呢道係最令我摸不著頭髗的 ; 最後粉上面舖上兩大塊Parmasan Cheese,大功告成。

4. Chocolate semifreddo 朱古力凍軟餅 - 餅面上舖滿類似龍鬚糖嘅糖絲,甜甜地,賣相相當吸引,你跟本就靚到唔捨得下刀。一切落去件餅,又話係軟餅,一啲都唔軟,感覺其實類一舊雪到硬哂嘅雪糕,不過朱古力味唔大濃烈,但甜度適中,食到最尾可能暖咗,開始變返軟餅。相信如果係好似我地兩個人品嚐一份甜品,份量係剛剛好的。

Comments: (Light Dinner)。可能區份問題,比其他姐妹店普遍價錢調高咗,但可供選擇嘅菜式亦多咗。佢地嘅服務仍然保持水準,雖然張枱就細咗啲,但係佢地效率高,唔好騷擾你,但係適當時候會迅速為你收起多餘碟子,令到整慢上菜嘅流程順暢。好,下次就係希望有機會試埋太古城嗰間。

自從上次在又一城看到隔離枱的麵包酥餐....念念不忘, 今早大清早到樓下附近搭車到黃泥涌水塘前...在 IFC 行了一圈...發現 Canteen 消失了, 多了它, 於是買了一個 poppy seed and walnut bread, $16 and almond croissant, $14!港島徑5至8段, 約在中段位置休息, 行吃杏仁牛角包, 杏仁多多, 但香味唔濃, 鋪面的白色糖粉唔太甜, very good, 牛角包非常酥鬆, 肥肥但幾好味! 論到合桃包....poppy seed 佈滿整個包, 令麵包增強咬口, 麵包質感唔太密, 合核好脆, 兩個麵包/酥水準都好高, 下次會再試試其他 danish!

3月4日(星期三),今天是女友的生日,所以特意來找女友食lunch,而且想“豪”一次,在IFC吃一頓百多元的午餐。IFC的食肆果然很高級,行了一會也找不到合適的,突然想起女友提起未來過這裡吃,於是就來等位。剛好一點鐘來到,裡面的檯都坐滿人,前面祇有兩個人在等位,心想應該不會等太耐就打電話叫女友來找我。我知道等位是要耐心的,但是沒想過三人檯可以“直入”(至少我眼見有兩次),二人檯就要等。等了約廿分鐘,女友來到也要等一會才有檯,但是給了張可以坐六個人的檯給我們。幸好門口的hostess早有先見之明,給等候的客人看menu想定選擇吃甚麼。這裡的lunch set 很簡單,包:1.一杯 Lime Soda or homemade ice-tea,2.soup of today or salad,3.pasta or other main course,如果加錢就可以要tea or coffee 。我點了個煙肉意粉,女友則要個煎鰽魚,我們兩個都要湯。是日餐湯是蘑菇湯,入口很濃郁的蘑菇味和很足料,足料到似蘑菇蓉多過似蘑菇湯,但味道接近零,即是沒味道可言,就算我下了數次黑椒亦不覺得有味道;煙肉意粉:

是日餐湯是蘑菇湯,入口很濃郁的蘑菇味和很足料,足料到似蘑菇蓉多過似蘑菇湯,但味道接近零,即是沒味道可言,就算我下了數次黑椒亦不覺得有味道;
煙肉意粉:見到open kitchen的廚師不停地handmade pasta,所以想試試這裡的pasta。意粉煮得有點硬,不算al dente,口感不錯,很有蛋味,初時以為煙肉是煙火腿之類,原來是風乾火腿,口感煙韌,味道很濃且很有咸香。
煎鰽魚:魚肉軟滑,亦有鮮味,份量不少,墊底的露筍新鮮爽口和薯蓉亦味道不錯。

差不多吃完之際,女友的同事來找我們,原來她們得悉女友今天生日,特意地去買了個蛋糕給她,於是我便要求waiter給幾隻碟,但那位waiter卻表示非「美心」的蛋糕不能在這裡切。埋單三百幾,雖然很飽,但感覺很貴,相信再來的機會不大。

我叫了個"魚曹"魚,朋友叫了個seabass。食物上台時發覺兩碟弄法好像一樣。朋友的意大利飯不錯。我們的頭盤還未食完,主菜就上台。不但野食凍了,連台也不夠位置放那麼多的碟。很失敗的服務,當我們吃主菜時,條魚都凍洒了。總結: 餐廳想番台,所以我們食得好rush。$165 per head,可以有更好的餐廳,坐得更舒服。非必要,都唔會再來。

週日和甜魔們一起蹂躪Yamm後,就趕赴ifc與友人眾會。IFC的 Simplylife有個落地大玻璃,可一窺碼頭全貌;而店內燈光昏暗,入夜後情調不錯,是個約會的好地方。可惜,是晚三個女人一個墟,完全不需甚麼情調。也不得不稱讚一下店家的聰明;是晚的格局是,朋友聚會的,就坐在靠窗,較明亮的一邊;而二人約會的,就安排坐在較深入的位置,不用受我們這些「墟」們騷擾;而我們這些「墟」,也不用怕打擾鄰座的喁喁私語,大可開懷暢談。不過,此分店環境雖好,食物卻比又一城店弱;沒有很餓的我們,要了三道菜,其實兩個就是沙律:一個是加了燒雞的caesar salad,另一個是火箭菜加上palma ham和桃的沙律;雖然用料仍是新鮮和屬中上水準,但份量掌握和調味的技巧上稍遞,以致各項材料的味道整合後,欠缺了一種「加倍增值」的神奇效果。反而是熱吃的Sea bass risotto很不錯,Sea bass很新鮮,烤的時間也掌握得很好,肉質鮮嫩、魚汁也豐盈;滲在以鮮魚湯作的risotto裏,好吃得不得了;只是太公不喜歡以糙米做的risotto, 如以傳統的Carnaroli 或Arborio做, 口感會更好。值得一提是

情人節的晚上,全店竟然只有三、四桌食客,驚訝。於是,沒有訂位,也毫無難道的坐下了。蟹肉南瓜湯:十分十分好味道,南瓜很香很甜;水牛芝士沙律:新鮮,配以少許黑醋汁,醒胃;這晚只有3款主菜選擇,我們要了燒春雞和牛排,兩樣都不過不失;甜品:古古力雪糕(加一篤像稻草的白糖絲)和香蕉批(脆批底上的是拖肥JELLY!!!!),我愛雪糕多很多;少不了這裡的特飲(是夜為柑桔薄荷),和可以擲死人的麵包,堪稱此店signiture吧。又一城分店的菜單好像不同,以pasta為主,這裡則全是肉食。還是愛平時的menu多點。

I worked in IFC over 2 yrs but i never buy lunch from Canteen becoz it's just another Maxim afterall and it's over priced.Simplylife has become my regular place now, I will pick up lunch once or twice a week from there. let's see what i have tried so far:Black pepper beef sandwich - my all time favorite!!! love the beef!!! (HK$42) Assorted mushroom foccasia - nice pizza! (HK$28)Salad bar - you can pick the mix from what they offered! i tried Grill pumpkin (personally not a pumpkin person but it'

Salmon danish - very good! been buying it for tea a couple of times!

Chocolae danish - so far so good, it's crispy!

Don't think it's overpriced compared to other sandwiches outlet in IFC, i think their bakery items are much much more than better than Pret!
