To promote a new salt and sugar reduction (RSS) dietary culture and living style to the people of Hong Kong, the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Committee on Reduction of Salt and Sugar in Food and the Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department have launched the "Less-Salt-and-Sugar Restaurants Scheme" ("Scheme"). Restaurants participated in the Scheme will offer less salt or sugar options to the consumer or even tailor-make less salt or sugar dishes in designated restaurants. It was flavorful from the plentiful sundried anchovies they cooked it with. The goose meat and goose intestines were just alright, but the sauce they served with it was the best I have ever had. I believe it was a secret recipe. Their fried shrimp and crab balls, a chiu chow delight, were a little disappointing due to how easily they broke apart, meaning there was a lack of shrimp or crab meat. Too much other ingredients. Comparable to a home made italian meat ball. It was more expensive than usual here so I would need a really good reason to return.

此店潮州菜馳名很久,我和太太多年前慕名以來,但又不覺值回票價,之後未想過再試。今晚正值大夥兒在附近打網球,於是有人選定此店飯局。 枱號在樓上,我們佔了雨張枱,共十六人。另有一枱坐了六位客人。我們叫了大約十款,記憶中幾味主菜計有椒鹽炸九肚魚、香煎蠔烙、普寧豆腐、蠔仔肉碎粥、油泡墨魚、鹵水鵝片、糖醋麵。因為大家席間閒話非常,所以沒閒拍照菜式。本來也不打算寫寫食評,但飯後卻忍不住寫少少感受。鹵水鵝片有點老,蠔仔肉碎粥做得馬虎,糖醋麵和普寧豆腐有部份炸得有點燶。整體來說,不似我們預期的馳名店水準。整晚樓上七時至十時就只有我們三枱。大家都有一疑團,馳名不代表能保持水準,但來來去去幾十款菜式,煮法幾十年應該可以日日如是,為何水準卻走下坡呢? 有點可惜。

If I could give ZERO STARS FOR SERVICE - I would!! We were expecting to have a good family meal here at an authentic chiu chow restaurant but the service here was simply TERRIBLE! We were rudely told to sit down at a table that was next to the kitchen exhaust and the toilets, however as our family had elderly members who were allergic and sensitive to certain strong smell, it was difficult for them to sit there. We politely asked to move to another table where the conditions were better in order

We were expecting to have a good family meal here at an authentic chiu chow restaurant but the service here was simply TERRIBLE! We were rudely told to sit down at a table that was next to the kitchen exhaust and the toilets, however as our family had elderly members who were allergic and sensitive to certain strong smell, it was difficult for them to sit there. We politely asked to move to another table where the conditions were better in order to make the elderly more comfortable but instead the staff scolded us and said NO. We asked another member of staff who finally let us change tables but after they let us change tables, all the staff started glaring and talking bad words about us. The whole 1.5 hours while we had our meal was terrible, the staff would stand at a corner and say bad things about our family - simply because we wanted to change tables for the elderly members of the group!! The food was mediocre, we could tell that since it was our second time coming here - the portions given to us this time were MUCH SMALLER and tasted less flavoursome. Food is oily and staff are especially unhygienic as their fingers touch the food when bringing to you.

I do not recommend you come here but instead find a better chiu chow restaurant - there are plenty in Hong Kong.

通常嚟九龍城都係食泰國菜居多,今次朋友仔帶咗我哋嚟食潮州嘢!首先每人嚟返杯功夫茶先~ Cheers~白飯魚同豬紅(白飯魚好味道食唔停口!)滷水鵝腸(鵝腸肥美,而且配白飯一流)無雞件所以變咗鵝片豆腐,再整番碗苦瓜黃豆湯(唔食苦瓜嘅朋友仲有好多湯品選擇架)仲有花甲(都好味嘅,但個人比較鍾意清淨地嘅油鹽水粉絲花甲多啲)同埋梅菜扣肉(味道剛剛好,而且唔會太肥膩)甜品就係反沙芋,可惜今晚嘅南瓜粿賣晒(第一次食反沙芋,感覺幾特別,仲得知製作方法原來好繁複)晚飯後亦有提供功夫茶。(飯前飯後喝一杯功夫茶,可算係歷代潮汕人的習俗,所以呢度都算係比較傳統嘅潮州菜。)

Chong Fat is my favorite place for Chiu Chow cuisine, and it's worth the trip to Kowloon City for the experience. Many thanks to my Hong Konger friends for making the introduction! I gave it four stars for decor. Why? Because it takes us back to the golden years of Hong Kong eateries before the overpriced, fancy western eateries arrived. The food display is larger than most Chiu Chow restaurants and the seafood selection is impressive. The prices are more reasonable than those on the Island and the dishes are far more authentic. There are no English menus but you can point to dishes and the staff can speak enough English to get you started.
