朋友即將離開香港,講咗好耐話想食文華扒房。食之前真係冇諗過咁失望,完全唔能夠達到米芝蓮級數。我大大話話都食過唔少米芝蓮級數餐廳,所以我相信我嘅味覺。首先所謂signature 牛扒同普通自助餐出邊攞嗰啲差唔多質素,威靈頓牛柳好少少但係都好普通。我真係好耐未試過食完嘢之後個心笠住笠住。呢個唔係淨係價錢嘅問題,而系想為個朋友製造好嘅回憶,最後居然搞成咁。對文華扒房真係好失望,簡直不能用文字形容。

For the long weekend Monday I found a spot at the Mandarin Grill, yippee! We men arrived in shorts doh 😣! Luckily the waiting staff arranged some trousers for us 👏 I misjudged the formal lunch scene at the MO!

After we ordered, we were presented brioche bread with butter which was very rich and buttery. Amuse bouche of scallops with finely chopped red capsicum (I think 🤔) were provided, the scallops were seared to perfection with a hard seared crust on outside and tender and moist inside.

The starters were a mixed oyster platter, the oysters were fresh and smooth with a nice salty seawater brine to it. The lobster bisque was rich and smooth with chunks of lobster in it, but the lobster taste was overpowered with the tarragon cream and cognac. The smoked salmon was carved at the table side and had a deep rich flavor, but was a little too salty because of the thicker cut by human hand than the normal machine cut slices.

For the mains one of us ordered the Australian 6oz tenderloin (medium cook) with hand cut chips, and the other two of us ordered the USDA prime rib of beef carved at the table. Firstly, the tenderloin was cooked to medium as ordered, but the charcoal smokey flavor was over powering and too much and spoiled the taste of the beef. The side of hand cut chips were perfectly cooked, crispy on outside and fluffy and moist on the inside. The prime rib beef was served as medium-rare when it was cut, but I thought it was a bit under and in the centre it was blue. However, the quality of the prime beef rib was high with a nice deep juicy beef flavor. The Yorkshire pudding side with the prime rib was over cooked and quiet tough to eat. The vegetable sides were slightly undercooked, the carrot was almost raw.

Desserts was a Mille-feuille or a deconstructed Napoleon, it was good, but nothing special; a cocoa bean cremeux, basically a chocolate ice cream which was delicious but again nothing special. The Seasonal Japanese and Local fruits platter is quite self explanatory and no need to review this dish. In any detail.

Finally, complimentary pistachio chocolates and almond crackers were provided.

Overall, excellent service, nice food but not outstanding! The setting and the allure of dining at the MO cannot be beaten at this HK icon.

食過唔少生牛肉他他,依個既味道相對較濃,唔係個牛味濃,而係少數佢用左調味既生牛肉他他,食得出佢加左一啲油加強左個油潤感,食落有少少辣,香料既味道濃郁。配上麵包食,其實唔難入口,只係個香料味未必人人中意,如果想搵你心目中既生牛肉他他,佢唔會係你期待中既咁,但係佢新奇既味道係會比到驚喜你既。

文華龍蝦湯出名既程度,相信未食過既人都會聽過,今次親身去試依一個湯,果然名不虛傳,龍蝦味相當豐厚,干邑既味道飲得到但唔會苦唔會有酒味,兩種強烈既味道唔會互相影響,反而令大家互相昇華,香純濃滑,加上煮得剛好恰當既龍蝦肉,每一啖都係一個享受。黎得文華,龍蝦湯絕對必試。

終於食到主菜,依個主菜亦係要加錢既菜式,而且要佔2個人一個Course先可以嗌。其實我本身對Beef Wellington冇乜期待,將一舊牛肉又包酥皮又加黑松露,又要焗咁耐,幾好食既牛都唔會好食啦,而且依種烹調手法似係用黎處理次一級既食材,事實上我亦食過一間名氣極大既扒房,入面既Beef Wellington令👦🏻震驚,一度有唔想嗌既恐懼,不過見好多人推介既情況下,就試下佢啦。本身話要早48小時訂,即日👦🏻亦有打過去餐廳,都係話太遲,唔會有。點知去到,侍應生話仲有最後一份,好似命中註定咁,唯有嗌啦!牛柳一到,就已經同我印象中既Beef Wellington好唔同,👦🏻👧🏻食既係侍應生推介既3成,望落酥皮好脆,而且表面焦焦地,中間一層黑松露已經似係泥狀,但係牛柳就異當既粉嫩。切落去雖然3層有分離既現象,但自行組合返3層食落去,個味道真係同印象中既唔同好多。首先係個酥皮除左脆之外,仲提供左一種焦香同煙燻既風味。中間既黑松露只有淡淡香氣,完全唔搶味,係點綴既功能。牛柳淋滑,熟度岩岩好,而且牛味豐富。扒房仲有提供唔同既芥辣,牛柳單獨食,或者同唔同既材料醬汁一齊食都有唔同層次既味道。今次總算明白到beef wellington所追求既係乜喇。

5 Course Menu 最後一道,唔少經典西餐都會有依一道甜品,只要整得好,基本上都十分討喜。當然 文華扒房 唔會令人失望,表面薄薄一層焦脆,入面Cream狀半固體,岩岩出爐既熱度,配上👧🏻揀既雲呢拿味雪糕,凍同熱加上甜味既融合,幾唔中意食甜品都一定會食返一兩啖。

文華扒房 食物上真係經得起歷史既洗禮,佢未必會令你好驚喜,但一定穩陣冇死,約會揀佢一定唔會衰。唯一問題係上菜時間,👦🏻👧🏻食依一餐用左2個半鐘😂😂😂,好似食法國大餐咁,不過如果2個人約會飲少少酒,傾下計咁都可以既,可以提供到一個獨處既浪漫環境比你好好了解下你既另一半。價錢上就絕對唔係入門價,如果有特別日子想慶祝下,追緊女神,體驗一下經典高級扒房,依個錢都係可以比既。

One Michelin Star Restaurant 🌟

Who doesn’t love a good beef Wellington?! Having tried the luxuriously overwhelming one from Rex Wine & Grill, I was looking for a simple traditional version. As recommended by 🐻, I set my eyes on the Mandarin Grill + Bar.

Tried their brunch menu. Booking wasn’t too terrible for weekend brunch. Less than a month wait now is kind of a miracle.

Was too greedy so we ordered 3 appetizers to share. The 4 oysters did not look good but turned out to be great. Super fresh. Don’t add their vinaigrette as it’s super duper sour. Just enjoy the oysters as they are.

The lobster bisque was super rich with loads of lobster chunks. The only thing is that it was not warm enough.

Their signature smoked salmon was with a good smoked flavor yet not overpowering or salty.

Then came the beef W
wellington. As we just added on with the brunch menu, it was a rather thin slice instead of the al carte size. The cook was superb with the perfect pinky medium. The beef was super tender. The pastry was flaky at first but it got soggy quickly with the sauce which was a bit disappointing.

The side dishes were below average. The beans were very salty. The mash was not buttery enough.

Desserts and the Madeline were merely average.

Overall, I think I should opt for al carte instead of the brunch menu. Have to come back again to order their beef wellington al carte to give it a fair comment.

Price: HK$1100 (Brunch with beef wellington)

Revisit: 7/10 (Have better options for brunch)
