I am a loyal diner at Tai Ping Koon (太平館餐廳) not only for its consistency in terms of food quality but also the homely feeling of its environment. It seemed to have the same decor as 5 years ago when I first visited and with the same strong air conditioning blowing right on top of your head! Don't expect top-notch services but do except skilled and extremely responsive services from the team of experienced staff. Tai Ping Koon is very famous for its Swiss Chicken Wings or more accurately the so-called Swiss sauce (瑞士汁). While items with Swiss sauce were good, my favorite item remains to be the ox-tongue.

(1) Tea
I am a coffee person but for some odd reasons, I ordered tea tonight. I am glad that I did because otherwise I would not have the chance to see something I haven't encountered for a long while which is the stainless steel "tea filter"! Of course you may see it in those upscale establishment serving traditional English after tea sets but at local Chinese food joints, it is becoming a rare item. Well, it wasn't the greatest tea but it was comforting especially a DIY cup of tea instead of those Hong Kong styled milk tea with everything added already.

(2) Boiled Corned Ox-tongue
It was salty but it was salty in a very delicious way. It looked plain but not the taste for sure. When I say the salty flavor was very complex, it was very complex indeed. It may sound crazy but I was making the following noises while eating this with spoonful of rice: HUMMM, YUMMM, HUMM followed by another series of HUMMMMs. It was a simple boiled ox-tongue yet very satisfying indeed! Soft and tender: who needs wagyu beef, this ox-tongue almost melted in my mouth as well!

* Boiled Corned Ox-tongue - salty but in a good and delicious way.

食瑞士汁雞翼嗰日, 我要拎個samsung電話去upgrade個firmware, 原本想食完先至去金朝陽中心samsung service centre. 點知落order時, 個伯伯waiter話雞翼要等起碼四五個字, 我猶豫叫唔叫d快d嘅嘢食, 咁早d去samsung 唔駛等咁耐, 但我又好想好想食瑞士汁雞翼, 所以都係叫咗. 我就利用等雞翼嘅時間去埋samsung. 我同伯伯waiter講轉頭嚟, 不如我擺低錢, 佢話唔駛啦唔駛啦, 我番嚟時見到雞翼已經嚟咗, 重用個蓋cup住. 可惜我個電話擺低咗响samsung, 影唔到嗰3隻瑞士汁雞翼(全翼)配薯仔(有得揀意粉). d雞翼非常入味同好腍, 但係因為係全翼, 所以好難控制, 除非用手食.

蝦多士
之後嗰日去攞番個電話前又去太平館, 食埋個蝦多士, 了埋個心願. 細個時好鐘意食蝦多士, 但係e家唔係好多地方有得食.
蝦多士嘅份量唔多, 大約半塊至1/3塊方包嘅size, 上面隻蝦都幾大隻, 橫誇塊麵包趴响上面, 塊飽炸得脆脆地, 如果冇咁燶會好d,. 伴碟仲有沙律, 估唔到好美味!
好可惜未攞番電話, 又影唔到個蝦多士.

食咁多次太平館(之前食過晚餐), 佢哋d食物都真係冇失手, 穩穩陣陣. 每次食晚餐都想叫佢哋嘅梳乎厘(又係唔係好多地方有得食), 但兩個人食, 份量好似太多, 食過嘅都知佢個梳乎厘係巨型嘅. 希望下次食到啦!

It was a great suprise, the food is pretty good, you could hardly find this type of traditional HK style cafe that could be that good. As usual, the waiter were extremely bad in their service, long & black faces... what's wrong with them ?? What make them that unahppy in serving cusotmer.The beef tongue was great in their tomatoes sauce, recommend !!The soup was the best of the best, real real real good , very strong favour.. 四點左右行街街行到又熱又攰,見太平館就腳,特登鼠入黎食個梳乎厘補一補叫左個梳乎厘2人餐 $98+1由我地落柯打到黎等左半個多鐘,好彩我地唔趕時間姐(不過個茶市唔多客,唔知點解都要等咁耐,一度懷疑焗衰左要再焗過)~~梳乎厘一黎香爆全場,一望仲大過人個頭佢個外皮好脆,入面個芯打得好起,食起上黎好輕,唔覺漏,而圍住個盆則邊D皮好濃蛋香味,食完再飲杯咖啡,一流~~

很來這個梳乎厘才慢慢變小, 很得意呢!

吃得幾乎收爐我們才捨得走, 捧著肚子離開.
好開心認識同學仔都是在楓葉國留學, 有多點共通話題.

附近收工,同事想吃牛尾,想起這裡一年四季都有,但限量供應的連皮牛尾,趁繁忙飯市前來吃吧。尖沙咀、佐敦、中環的店都吃過,唯獨是這邊經常路過又經常都沒有特別理由來,同事問點解,笑言附近特色店子不少,犯不著總店分店大比拼吧。吃過砵酒煮的,今次要了西班牙燴鮮牛尾,叫多個珍肝奄列。問過老伙計西班牙燴鮮牛尾是否連皮的,說是,但上到來卻是已去皮,來的目的是吃連皮版本,沒有皮的不值得將胃納投資於此,經理見狀就拿回廚房替換(其時同事已吃了兩件),專個頭回來連忙賠個不是,說連皮的售完了,替大家取消張單,雖然有點敗興,但唔見了兩件牛尾亦唔收錢老實的生意手法,值得一讚。珍肝奄列重點似乎是用上豉油西餐港式醬汁煮成的珍肝,雞肝切成加上雞腎,兩者都是新鮮貨,沒腥、雪味,與甜中帶鹹的醬油汁,撈吃蛋皮來起來也不錯,雖然蛋皮過老,但分量方面絕對夠大食同事當早餐;之後再追加岑味牛舌,諧音作「神味牛舌」,牛舌炆得鬆腍入味,用的絕對是靚貨,好的材料不易找,處理更是學問,難得;而重點珍肝醬汁,雞肝的豐腴與酸中帶甜的醬汁,美味得不得了,是撈飯的好朋友!濃得化不開的黏稠汁底,在家不易煮到,收近九十元,亦是物有所值。雖然吃不到連皮牛尾

肉厚豐滿「神味牛舌」,同吃烤肉一樣,要配白飯吃!
當無連皮牛尾時,只好退而求其他的「好」。
百年老字號,分店只得四間,比起變質的美心連瑣業務,堅持用靚料的太平館,是更值得大家捧場的好館子。

We came just before Xmas eve as this place was fully booked on the red dates.

We started with ox tail soup, this was yummy quite thick and lots of meat! The main courwse I ordered braised Ox-tongue with spaghetti, our old time favourite and it was large enough for the few of us to share! Mom ordered Smoked Promfret cooked just right and taste well even without the dressing on the side, she could not even finish the side dishes
; my little bro ordered the roasted pigeon it taste so good even without needing to dip with the sauce! My dad ordered the Swiss sauce chicken wing set and the sauce was good not too sweet nor salty and it goes well with rice!
For desert we ordered the souffle! I am not exaggerating but it was huge and its so mouthful and I ate my dad's share as he cannot take up too much sweet things!
I was amazed when the couple next to our table finished the whole thing just the two of them!
, anyone comes here must not miss this!

對這裡的乳鴿沒抱太大期望。吃落,外皮的確不夠香脆,惟勝在肉比較多,且嫩滑,在沒期望之下反而有一點點驚喜。

蛋糕是預期中的差,上面層cream已經唔好,海綿蛋糕又死實實,難怪見到檯檯客都係應酬式吃兩啖就走人。

結尾一杯熱檸茶,和美女說東說西,又是一個美好的晚上。真的希望永遠留住此空間,不想再走回現實世界裡。

太平館是中式?西式?還是不中不西?
根據報章該日的報導,太平館的發言人回應太平館為'港式西餐廳'。
既有中式食物,亦有西式食品,當然少不了經由我們香港人改良的中西美點。
我想太平館的瑞士雞翼就是一大例子了。
是次到訪是我的第一次,當然要試試其招牌菜式吧!

乾炒牛河和瑞士汁炒河有點兒難以取捨
細問之下才知道原來不止汁的味道不同!
瑞士汁原來係濕炒河!
嘗試過泰式的濕炒河,當然是乾炒牛河較惹味吧!
一端上來,真的色香味俱全!
河粉很入味和爽口,條條分明,但不油膩啊!
最怕食乾炒牛河食到成口油,但佢就唔會啦!
味道有少計甜,不是一味只有豉油的鹹味
碟底的油就真係見乾炒牛河的真章啦
佢碟底的油份不太多,都算合格啦!

燒乳鴿係新鮮熱辣即製的,好新鮮啊
隨乳鴿而來的是'瑞士汁',用作蘸點乳鴿真的美味無比
乳鴿皮脆肉嫩,但就沒有'熱氣'和油膩感
特別之處就係太平館會完整成隻乳鴿俾客人
連內臟亦放在瑞士汁內,別具特色

瑞士雞翼當然是不能缺少的
瑞士汁香濃美味,每隻雞翼都充分入味
甜得黎又沒有照燒汁般甜,同時帶有少許豉油的鹹味
單是碟底的汁都可以撈上兩碗飯!

嘩!!嘩!!嘩!!
大人細路見到都哈哈大笑的巨型梳乎厘!
雖然價錢貴左少少,但一見到佢就開心到乜都唔記得啦
蛋味很香,口感輕如雪,就好像吃了十多個紙包蛋糕!
啖啖都好像吃著泡泡般,十分有趣!
味道不會很甜,三五知己分享最好不過了
但切記要快快進食,否則梳乎厘塌下就不美了!
特別之處係食梳乎厘會奉上巨型叉匙,十分可愛呢!

哈!真係乜式都有
香港人真係好勁!
很享受的一餐呢!

This place (or rather, its predecessor) had been established more than 100 years ago. I think the brand name has become part of HK. Although the place may look a bit run down, the food they serve is really of high quality. We had dinner with my parents (total 4 of us) on Sunday night. The place was already fully packed when we arrived at ~6:45pm. Fortunately we booked a table in advance.

We ordered:

1) Ox tail soup - very thick and full of substance and flavor. Came with traditional soft buns with butter. Really nice !

2) Smoked Promfret - although the size might be a bit small, the taste certainly was not ! The fish was nicely smoked and yet retained its soft and tender texture. Also came with a side salad (potato and vegetables). Very good indeed !

3) Ox tongue - again, one of the signature dishes. The first thing that struck us was the big size of those ox-tongues ! Very nicely done - really tender, juicy and just a hint of salt with no other additives as far as I could tell. Awesome !

4) Portuguese chicken rice - this must be a misnomner (or a local invention ) as I don't think there is such a dish in traditional Portuguese cuisine
Nonetheless, the taste was just great. The whole dish was baked and was steaming hot when arrived. Chicken meat was very tender and the coconut sauce was perfect - we ended up finishing the whole dish of rice without any difficulty at all.

5) Roast pigeon - again, a signature dish and a must-order item. The quality of the pigeon was comparable to other places like Fung Lum. The special "swiss" sauce that went with the pigeon, as well as the liver, kidneys and heart, were absolutely delicious !


6) Finally, any meal at Tai Ping Koon would not be considered complete with a try of their signature baked souffle. The souffle was really huge in size (like a basketball !)but surprisingly it was not heavy to take at all. Very nice and another must-order item !!

Service was efficient and polite in or opinion. We will definitely be back again.

不是朋友生日想吃超大梳乎利, 也不會再去呀!! 該店不設訂位的特別提醒! 坐低不久, "經驗十分豐富"的老待應, 第一句就問"還不叫野食?" 吓??? 有冇攪錯??!! 樣樣食品也要等上30mins or以上他解釋. okok! 結果有聲稱好好味的"瑞士雞翼", "濕炒瑞士汁牛河", "燒乳鴿", "燒豬睥" & "超大梳乎利", 全晚差不多就吃了一支豉油似的, 所有都係用同一隻豉油做的, 有沒有見過炸薯條係用豉油浸架??!! 不得不提, 可能因為老店, 所有待應都要重覆又重覆叫4, 5次才回應你的, 自命沒有EQ者請勿前往!!!
