First visit and very excited to visit a Viet fusion restaurant. Unfortunately food was quite average and service was downright rude and unacceptable. One would expect more from an upmarket branding and location. Disappointed would be a kind word for the overall experience. Wouldnt recommend it.

It had a nice outdoor seating area with draping lights 💡, giving a very cosy and relaxing vibe. We sat indoor for the air-con. It was a busy night. Started off with a glass of cocktail 🍹, we ordered My Khe Time (HK$128). It was light and fruity. Couldn’t really taste the gin though. Very expensive at this price for a small drink. On par with LKF bars and hotel cocktail prices 💰

Out of the 3 dishes we shared, we only enjoyed the Bun Bo Nam Bo with 12-hour chargrilled Black Angus steak and black pepper, bone marrow fish sauce (HK$ 168)
Beef was grilled to perfection and very flavorful and succulent
Good portion size. There were around 8 big pieces of meat 🥩 surrounded with many garnishes. I would order it again!

Their Xuan Signature Beef Pho (HK$ 158) was large in portion and filled with ingredients. Definitely got our money’s worth. However, the broth which should be the essence of the dish, was disappointing.
It was not strong in flavors. Something was lacking. Perhaps needed more fresh herbs 🌿 and seasoning 🧂. We’ve had much better pho 🍜 at local stores at half the price.

Overall, a mediocre meal. Enjoyed 1 dish out of 3. Expensive cocktails after happy hour. Bit pricey for Vietnamese food. Their signature beef pho was unremarkable.

I feel, as the title mentions, that it’s quite hard to stand out as a Vietnamese restaurant in hk. There are TONS of low cost options, but there are also quite a number of higher end choices as well. Xuan is definitely one of the higher end options The interior design is nice. It’s one of those places that people would like a lot of they are a big fan of the use of wood in restaurants. The staff is also polite and communicate well. The bathroom is nice and the location of the restaurant is obvio

We ordered quite a number of things

1. Appetizer 1 which I forgot the name of
2. Soft Shell Crab
3. Steak Tartar (Chanh tartare)
4. Beef Pho
5. Bun Uni
6. Bun Bo Nam Bo with pork

I think all the appetizers were quite good. The soft shell crab did a good job with the sauce, as it isn’t too strong, not too rich or filling, etc.


My Bo nam bo however was kind of flat. There was a lot of food provided, but not too much taste. The pork chop that came with it was charred just a little too much, and also didn’t have much taste. Maybe a little marinade and a slightly better cut of pork would improve it


Finally, I’m not sure cooking uni really does anything for it. The restaurant could consider just serving it raw on top of the noodles

Needless to say, their signature beef pho features Angus rib, beef tongue and oxtail just bloomed my mind. The 24-hour broth is beefy, savoury that goes well with all ingredients in the bowl. I ordered a cocktail to start. My Ke Time ($128). The refreshing drink has a nice balance of sweetness and acid, with vodka mixed with fresh lemongrass, pineapple juice and peach liqueur. Simple yet also delivers a quenching experience from the hot and humid weather.

For starter we had Cha Gio Crispy Spring Rolls ($128). The spring rolls are certainly tasty, with fillings made from local grouper and crab meat, paired with market greens and homemade Nuoc Mam. Wrapping the spring onion with the lettuce, adding the fresh herbs of mint and coriander, and then pouring in a bit of the nuoc nam sauce gives a perfect harmony of sweet and savory taste. Highly recommend.

The other starter is something I tried for the first time. Banh Beo Trio Rice Cakes ($148). The rice cake is basically a small plate of steamed rice paste, before putting in different ingredients on top. There is one with the shredded pork which got a bit of spice, and I like this the most given its spicy kick while not overpowering. The egg yolk and crab meat one has a creamy texture to showcase the delicate taste of the crab meat, and the remaining one features a large prawn with some deep-fried pig skin. Quite interesting but in terms of taste it might not be the most impressive dish.

Then we had Banh Xeo Sizzling Crepe ($198). Another innovative dish, the crepe wrapped around a number of prawns, as well as pickled carrot and turnip shreds. Paired with another nuoc nam sauce which also got some pickled carrot and turnip added, it is eaten with the lettuce wrapping the crispy crepe and the prawn, then adding the fresh herbs of coriander and mint, plus the nuoc nam sauce, similar to the spring rolls. Good in taste, but personally I prefer the spring rolls more.

The last dish we ordered was Grilled Three Yellow Chicken (half - $198). The chicken was nicely roasted with a bit of char, while the meat is still tender and juicy. There are a few slices of lime on top, which I believe has been marinated with syrup to give a nice sweet and sour taste, and using them to wipe across the chicken added further flavors to it. Coming with steamed rice, this dish is a nice main course to consider.

Service is decent, though the staff is a bit unsure of themselves in my observation. Not sure is it because they are new or not properly trained, but it is a minor thing which can be improved easily. The bill was $943 and in my opinion at a decent price level. A nice place to sample some northern Viet cuisine.

第二個餸嗌咗豬扒碎飯。呢碟飯真係我懷疑佢唔記得調味同腌肉。所有食材都食得出係新鮮嘅,不過就係冇味。豬扒完全冇底味,連鹽同胡椒嘅味都。企喺度嗰塊脆皮腐竹,又係得個脆字,冇味。之後有一塊木耳蒸蛋嘅物體,冇味。口感十足美心三送飯嗰啲肉餅咁。啲飯又係冇味。其實呢個飯係配檬粉嗰種魚露,所以其實整碟飯我唯一食到就係魚露既味。我唔係好知自己食咗啲乜。

總體而言呢間餐廳我係唔會再食,有興趣嘅自己可以去試,不過我覺得呢個價錢,好過佢嘅越南餐廳真係周街都係😂可一不可再。
又係一間食裝修,食環境嘅餐廳。

This is one of the most heated new restaurants recently. And after my visit, I find it no surprise why. If Spring Field is a pho with Japanese twist 🇯🇵 I would say Xuân‘s pho is with an American twist 🇺🇸 They use beef prime rib for the pho and it is to my surprise that it actually works very well. Their broth goes for a lighter and clearer approach without much herbs that showcases the beefy flavour and Northern Vietnamese style. The add-on beef bone marrow 🦴creates amazing chemistry with the broth too to make it even more intense and beefy. Don’t forget to add the Chinese-churros and you will thank me later 😉

Their appetisers and salads are very well crafted too. The crab 🦀 spring roll looks nothing special but I regret saying this after a bite. It is literally a roll of crabmeat‼️ They are newly open last month and lots of foodies are bookmarking for them. Do make a reservation before you go😎

At a reasonable price they provide a 3-course tasting menu, the focus is of course, pho. The beef is a slow-cooked US Prime Rib which is thick and tender, certainly the best beef in a pho I had. However, the 24-hour beef broth was not too rich nor flavourful, I wonder if it’s the Northern Viet style.

For add-ons: the Chinese doughnuts were crunchy and fluffy to dip in the broth, while bone marrow adds a fatty rich flavour to the soup!

Salads of beef tongue and hand-pulled chicken were interesting fusional creations; While starters were spring rolls with fresh crabmeat (which is so good!) and caramelised chicken wings.

Enjoyed a nice lunch set HK$158 for salad, starter and pho!Love the take on Vietnamese as I really do feel that it's a much under-appreciate cuisine in Hong Kong at the moment - especially since there are so many high-quality ingredients available to restaurateurs here. Really wanted to add in the bone-marrow for HK$50 but opted not to, perhaps will try it next time.
