This restaurant was opened for a few weeks, and my wife and I went to try last Monday night. Once we sat down, we were presented with an appetizer (前菜 – 豆乾青瓜粒). Because it was pretty late (after 10pm), the appetizer was warm and fairly watery (warning – has been exposed to the air too long). We eat out often and know that many restaurants have the option of retuning the appetizer when it was being presented (ie, never touched). So my wife asked the girl immediately if we could return this, and she said no. Fairly enough, but if we can’t return it, then we should have the option to take something else. The girl hesitated and walked back to the order counter (which was right behind where I sat) and started asking questions. Then a young man in 油脂領帶 and a faintly-stripped white shirt walked over to our table with the appetizer and asked us what’s the problem. We repeated the story and wanted to see if we could change to another one or other appetizers. The young man came back with another one that was just as watery and this time without any 豆乾, and we were told that we can’t change to other appetizers. Once again, my wife asked if we could return this. Although the young man tried to say no, another lady stood behind me said yes. And just as young man was walking away from our table, he mumbled “…呢D係最低銷費...” and made it sounded like we were cheap and did not want to pay for the appetizer. My wife simple called him back, asked him what he meant, and if he is the manager of the restaurant. He freaked out and rushed back to the counter and cancelled the appetizer, while the girl and the lady said “…yes, being cancelled…” to us for a few times.
Morel of the story –
1. The restaurant should have a set policy for every staff to follow. If the appetizers are not to be returned, stick to it. Worst case, we leave (which we would have).
2. This young man thought he could take charge, but he had no idea of the story and his restaurant’s working policies. So much for the basics of customer service.
3. With regards to the warm and watery appetizer, my wife actually went back to the restaurant this week to have a look at how they handle the appetizers. As thought, she discovered that all the appetizers were put on top of the ordering counter (where I sat) without covers. Not only the food is being exposed to room temperature (and we all know that bacteria starts growing after being exposed to the air 1.5 – 2 hours), these kids were also taking and joking at the ordering counter over the coverless appetizers. You might not mind to eat others’ spit but I certainly do. Where’s the hygiene?
4. This restaurant is delivering搵笨 MK style service while charging Elements prices. Customer service gets 1 out of 5 stars only.
