Aberdeen Street Social其實是22 ships集團的餐廳,所以食物出品頗有保証。遲到的甜魔媽媽,一來就有得吃,真開心,首先是Brunch menu中的Eggs Benedict ($118),流心度對辦、又有香濃荷蘭醬的水波蛋,會拌著金門火腿及鬆軟Muffin上檯,水準平穩達到期望,雖然有食友認為火腿味咸了一點。

然後有Crispy prawn and roman sandwich ($128),成品賣相十分吸引,引到我們拍了又拍,有點錯過最佳食用的熱度。之不過,麵包烘得金黃香脆,加上炸得香脆的大蝦、惹味沙律醬,以及清爽生菜絲,組合也令人滿意。另外麵包口感不俗,以留起來蘸點Benedicts的蛋汁也很好味~

然後有簡單卻美味的Garlic, cheddar cheese, rosemary ($78),薄餅的芝味與蒜香均很突出,但同時互不搶去對方風頭,難得構成和諧又合拍的口味;另外批身也鬆香而帶一定口感,水準真不錯,甜魔媽媽一個人吞掉整個批也沒問題!

最後是最豪華的Lobster Benedict ($238),相比傳統的Egg Benedicts,少了火腿及Muffin,但就有不少龍蝦肉,還拌上一件盛有新嫩蟹肉的脆多士上檯,組合豐富又矜貴。

將水波蛋切開,又香又濃的蛋醬嘩啦嘩啦的流出來,與嫩甜的龍蝦肉構成豐富又美妙的滋味,是全日最美味的菜式。不過吃這味飽肚度實在較遜,吃完它甜魔媽媽只覺半飽而己!

而不知是有幸還是有不幸,當日的甜品比主菜還比很多,所以一定夠飽,不過水準就平平了。可能大家都估到了,甜品是Sweet Social運過來,所以另文再記了。

After 22 ships and Ham & Sherry, Jason Artherton has launched his third restaurant Aberdeen Street Social in the PMQ. We came here at six for dinner with our family. Firstly, we were kind of pissed by the waitress who was trying to give us a seat right next to the entrance and washroom, while there is a hell lots of seats. Her excuse was there was a reservation! We booked our table like two months early as well! SO? and fortunately the other guy came and gave us a better seat. And you know what?

And you know what? those people were not even showing up until we finished our meal, which is two hours later! Well, anyway, here I am only selecting a few dishes out of all we have tried to talk about.
I am going to skip the bread basket and come directly to this delicious amuse-bouche. This is quite a simple dish, but the garlic bread and the deep fried chicken nuggets were both very tasty and fresh made. Garlic bread taste very strong and the chicken was very juicy, came in nice and hot. Think it was a good start.

We ordered this Raw Hokkaido Scallops with dashi jelly, apple, shiso, avocado and wasabi puree. These Hokkaido scallops came in a good size and quite fresh, but it tastes just like any raw scallops dish, nothing much special. We also had salad as well, but think this taste better.

Braised ox cheek and roasted bone marrow, with sour dough crumbs, carrot and horseradish mesh. Except for the Ox cheek was very tender. and the bone marrow was very fattening, there is not much i can comment about this dish. It wasn't bad, but there is a lot of improvement they can make. Just no surprise, it is a very traditional dish.

This BLUEBERRY got a interesting combination of ingredients. There is smoked lapsang tea, milk textures, mascarpone, and honey whisky. The lapsang smoked tea got a real strong smoked aroma, which i think it was a bit too strong, it kind of covered the taste of the tea. the milk textures feel a bit like egg white. The whole thing was interesting, but I don't quite like the whisky, it kind of stands out on its own like a stranger.

Petite four. Surprisingly this petite four was very nice. There is chocolate, pistachio cake, passion fruit Turkish delight and some toffee. Think they are all good, if I have to rate it, i think chocolate is the most normal. The best is the pistachio cake, but toffee and Turkish delight are both good too.

In conclusion, think 22 ships is more successful and out standing. I haven't tried Ham & Sherry, I hope I will try it out soon. Think this place got so much improvement need to make, no matter on their service or food quality. It doesn't worth us book that early in advance.

食物上幸虧好食。那當然了,Michelin - Chef Jason Atherton的作品(也是我喜歡22 ships的大廚)。Chopped salad with Za’atar and grilled chicken>簡單的蔬菜(洋蔥、青瓜、紅蕪菁、車厘茄),夠冰冷,中東香料配清淡的buttermilk作沙律醬,口味清新健康。份量也十足。

Crispy prawn and roman sandwich>賣相跟味道都一流。剛烤脆的長長麵包,質感鬆軟,上面佈滿了酥炸的小蝦,加上酸甜的醬汁及檸檬汁,不油亦不膩。不捨的食完它。

如果服務效率跟食物一樣好,我會給這餐廳十分。

Located in the JPC building at PMQ, Aberdeen Street Social is the third venture in Hong Kong by Jason Atherton who has successfully launched 22 Ships and Ham & Sherry. I loved 22 Ships which is a Spanish tapas restaurant so I was eager to try a different type of food by the chef - modern British cuisine at A.S.S. The restaurant is split into 2 levels with Upstairs being a formal restaurant while Downstairs is a casual bar and cafe. As the building is surrounded by a garden, even the interior design strives to emulate that feeling with dark green walls and gold trimmings. I came here for lunch with several friends at the Upstairs restaurant where the lunch set costs $238 for 2 courses and $288 for 3 courses - same as Bibo where I visited recently.

As bread lovers, we all agreed that the homemade whole wheat bread here was very delicious with its fluffy texture and subtle flavors. The bread seemed to be made fresh on the spot as I can see the oven where the bread is produced.

We were presented with 2 amuse bouches - the one on the right is a fried chicken nugget with jam and walnut on top while the one on the left is a flatbread with cheese. Both were adequate but not that special either.

Iberico Ham (4.5/5) - I loved the refreshing presentation of this dish as it reminded me of a garden! The egg had a crispy layer with liquid yolk in the center while sitting on thick and creamy crushed peas. To my surprise, the Iberico ham had been fried to a crispy state so it tasted similar to bacon. The contrasting flavors and textures were able to balance each other out in a delightful way - it was one of the more impressive dishes of our meal.

Aubergine Caviar (3/5) - referred as the poor man's caviar due to the seeds in the flesh, aubergine caviar is basically a roasted eggplant dip. Typically used as a spread on bread, the aubergine caviar was thick and creamy with an Asian flavor to it. Beautifully adorned with garden vegetables, we just weren't sure if the aubergine caviar worked as an accompaniment with the salad.

Sea Bass (2.5/5) - unfortunately the mains we had were a bit disappointing. Served with crushed potatoes, the sea bass was overcooked and underseasoned at the same time. The sides with the tomato, cucumber and caper sauce turned out to be even more interesting than the main ingredient of this dish.

Confit Lamb Neck (2.5/5) - the confit lamb neck was tender enough but way too salty. Even the sauce that was poured on the spot was salty which didn't help. The potato puree with garlic and parsley was pretty soft and creamy though.

Blueberry (4/5) - this blueberry dessert was definitely exciting and adventurous in terms of its mix of ingredients and flavors. Paired with Lapsang smoked tea, milk textures, mascarpone, and maple whisky, the blueberries were lusciously sweet to eat while the smoked tea sorbet was unique and intriguing. I wasn't sure about the maple whisky though as I'm not a fan of whisky and didn't think it complimented the flavors of the other ingredients.

Date (3.5/5) - the date dessert was also interesting in its combination with almond, Moroccan spices, coffee, and dried tangerine peel. The combination was certainly ambitious but sometimes it's best to keep it simple as the flavors weren't that complimentary. The desserts here came across as trying too hard and throwing things together for the sake of shock factor.

Verdict - while there were one or two wonderful dishes of our meal, the food on the whole was not that impressive while the environment was a bit noisy (that's where the social aspect comes in I guess). The service was spectacular though as the staff were attentive and knowledgeable. Our plates were cleared on time while our water glasses were always kept full. They had asked us for our opinion on the mains and when we told them what we thought, they were kind enough to take out the charge for one course so we were only charged with the 2 courses price. As much as I wanted to love Aberdeen Street Social though, I just didn't love it.

The duplex has an upstairs restaurant with open kitchens and the downstairs bar/cocktail service area. The interior is more on the industrial, rustic side downstairs. Upstairs is a more serene, formal setting. We opted for the downstairs cocktail area.
We stuck with the bar bites and the mixed drinks!

Bloody English for moi! Two, to be exact...Slipsmith gin, tomato juice, "Full English" spice mix, lemon, Bristol cream sherry, egg on toast ($110) I'm a big fan of Bloody Mary's...not sure since when? But this cocktail makes me happy! And they do a good job! Spicy and refreshing.

Goat Cheese Churros, Truffle Honey ($78) The goat cheese churros were pretty bomb. Slightly crispy on the outside, and the strong creamy goat cheese (the inside goat cheese is warm and perfectly melted without burning your mouth). I didn't use as much of the truffle honey sauce because I wanted to enjoy the goat cheese flavour!

Pulled Pork Empanadas ($102) It's been a while since I've seen pork empanadas on a menu...so we jumped at the chance to order this!! Like a baked dumpling/pastry. The outside pastry was perfectly browned and slightly flaky, while maintaining the pulled pork meat inside!

Chorizo, Iberico Ham Flatbreads 6", ($98) This was my favourite out of all the pizzas. I loveeeee my some pizzas. And this chorizo, iberico ham flatbread did the trick. The meats all added a nice spicy kick to the tomato based pizza with a nice amount of cheese atop it. Loved the dough pizza base! Not too bad at all.
I'll be back to try the formal dining restaurant upstairs. But overall, its a nice chill area to go for drinks and catch up with friends!

這是整頓飯較為傳統演繹方式的菜式:炆牛面頰配牛骨髓,紅蘿蔔,薯蓉。配上紅酒跟肉汁的醬汁,味道不過不失,沒什麼驚喜。

另外也點了Lamb Rump ($378)作主菜。

最後免費贈送的petit fours,我們也沒有品嚐就離開了。

我嘗試過不少摩登的英倫美食,Aberdeen Street Social不至於很差。可能餐廳剛開業不久,暫時來說我覺得這還是一家食裝修和名氣的餐廳,而食物和服務還是有不少的進步空間。
题外话/补充资料: 不要坐Table 54,座位後有一扇防火門,侍應又開又關,外面悶熱的濕氣再加上室內不強的冷氣,無論老人還是年輕人都不會喜歡。最好事先訂檯的時候跟他們提出要求,因為他們會跟你說當晚一整晚都沒人坐的桌子已經給人訂座了。 服務態度非常一般和混亂,直接找高級侍應點菜會節省你不少來來回回的時間。 雖則環境舒服但畢竟是走social/casual形式的餐廳,但食物等待時間絕對跟法國fine dining有得揮。

食物
由米芝蓮星級廚師Jason Atherton主理的新派英倫料理,今天先來試試午餐。Lunch Social有2 courses 和 3 courses選擇,另外亦有à la carte可供選擇。

Hors d'oeuvre - Flatbread 面脆充滿蒜蓉香但又不會乾身。橙色的似乎是炸雞皮包裹着什麼的,亦很香口,伴cocktail一流。

Bread - 感覺像是出爐後剛剛放夠了時間,外皮非常脆而內裡仍是暖暖的。麵包很鬆軟亦滿載麵包香。

Sea bass, crushed potatoes, tomato, cucumber, caper sauce - 鱸魚的味道不錯但略煎乾了一點,幸好有新鮮蔬菜伴碟,補足了一下整碟不至於太乾。總體而言不是特別出色的,它是lunch social 3 courses其中可以選的,也許大量製作失準了。

Snapper, clams, celeriac, confit lemons and sauce meunière - 主餐牌的其中一個主菜,snapper比sea bass煮得較好,做法亦較特別。Snapper底下放了醃製過的檸檬,軟滑鮮味的魚肉滲出清新的檸檬香,感覺新鮮。

濃郁的香蕉雪糕配朱古力,再有citrus的味道減少甜膩的感覺。有軟滑的雪糕又有冰狀的粒粒,令整道甜品有不同層次的口感。

想不到過來招呼我的,竟然是糕點行政總廚 Andreas Lara,當然忍不住跟他寒喧幾句。這位年輕的總廚,曾在著名的 El Bulli 和 Noma 效力,對於新派的甜品一點也不陌生,今次來到香港坐鎮,我們真的有口福了。

首先點了 Carmelita, 幼滑的青蘋果慕絲略帶點青蘋果蓉,配以夾心的青蘋果啫哩和榛子朱古力餅底,口感豐富得像吃一片冰凍的蘋果批一樣。糕餅內還散發著淡淡的甘菊茶香,不錯!

另一款甜品 Sweet Social 芝士蛋糕反而感覺普通了一點。這款由新鮮的士多啤梨、芝士忌廉和檸檬打做而成的作品,味道其實不差,只是我們期待更多的驚喜而已。

非常喜歡 counter 玻璃上的一句,「人生變幻無常,還是先吃甜品最實際。」。果然是字字鏗鏘,如果不吃,豈不是罪大惡極!

先點了餐牌內最為有趣的一道菜 - 慢煮雞蛋、配血腸、炸豬耳和醃蠔菇。血腸和豬耳都是英國菜的精髓,今次巧遇百搭的溫泉蛋,效果又起了一種獨特的化學作用。

這款黑色的血腸入口感覺有點像用肉鬆堆砌出來的麵包一樣,鬆化當中又帶有頗重的肉味,加上味道豐富的溫泉蛋和蠔菇,口感便更富層次。唯一美中不足的是豬耳炸得太脆,質感太過煙韌。

鮮北海道帶子刺身、配高湯啫喱、蘋果絲、牛油果芥茉醬, 4/5
鮮帶子刺身一向是 Chef Atherton 在 22 Ships 的𢲡手好菜,今次改用高湯啫喱、蘋果絲和牛油果芥茉醬做配料,味道同樣是出神入化。

蘋果絲、牛油果和高湯啫喱不單只令帶子的口感變得更豐富,就連鮮味也不知不覺地大大提升。

烤鵪鶉胸肉、配風乾鵪鶉腿、香煎鵝肝、櫻桃蓉、中式杏仁, 4/5
在元創坊的官方網頁也曾見過這道菜式的照片,心想必然是大廚的推介傑作。

鵪鶉分別有兩種煮法,胸肉先用慢火燒烤,再配以風乾處理的鵪鶉腿,兩款都各有特色,加上大大片的煎鵝肝,畫面更加漂亮。

煎鵝肝和鵪鶉向來是對絕配,彼此的味道相輔相承,櫻桃蓉幫助減輕菜式的油滯,不錯。

炆牛面頰肉、配牛骨髓、紅蘿蔔、辣根醬薯蓉, 3.5/5
雖然大部分菜式的演繹方式都比較前衞,但餐牌之內仍有一些較為傳統的作品,我們最後一道主菜炆牛面頰便是個好例子。

牛面頰肉用了慢火炆煮,醬汁也是見慣見熟的肉汁和紅酒的配搭,菜式的味道的確是不錯,但還有進步空間。

主菜後先送上一款 pre-dessert 來清新一下味蕾,這款自家製的青蘋果芫茜雪芭果然一針見血。

雪芭的味道令人煥然一新,加上底層的綠茶脆脆和日本布冧酒啫喱令層次更豐富,味蕾也瞬間被喚醒了。

甜品由糕餅行政總廚 Andreas Lara 精心設計,率先登場的先有他的得意傑作 Madras 咖喱雪糕配朱古力醬和焦糖香蕉粒。

第一次吃咖喱味的雪糕,心情特別興奮又帶點緊張。原來雪糕的味道沒有想像中的濃烈和辛辣,反而是較溫和而清新,加上朱古力醬和焦糖香蕉粒,效果頗為獨特。

另一款同樣是雪糕的甜品味道相對普通。中式杏仁味的雪糕,配以烤咖啡、醃金柑、紅棗和摩洛哥香料等的材料,中西合璧的衝擊之下,味道卻未見突出。

緊貼著主菜後,還有兩片特大的雲呢拿棉花糖做 petite fours,棉花糖面層灑滿了朱古力粉,味道甜美可口,為一頓極之豐富的晚餐劃上句號。

Aberdeen Street Social 為我們大吹前衞的英國風,往後日子還有 Gordon Ramsay 和 Tom Aikens 等幾位來自英國的重量級大廚快將登陸,2014 年相信必定會是英國菜的天下了。
