Went yesterday after seeing the Top 10 of December list right here on OP. The pics made the "San Jeen Bao's" (SJB) look really good, nicely sized, crispy bottom, minimal soup inside. Got there at around 8:30, no lineup, they have a tiny black board telling you when the next batch of SJB's are ready, which is a nice touch. Got 8 SJB's for $32 which was a good deal, my mate got 4 SJB's and 4 "siu long bao's" (SLB). The place is small, no seats, theres some room on the left for maybe 6 people to crouch and eat-in.
The food comes on time (8:40 eta written on the board), looking great. I take a tiny bite anticipating a little soup then BAM, a chunk of soup splashed onto my new suit. Can't cry over spilled milk. So I take a serious bite once again, and............the meat has literally no flavour, and I mean none. You can also make a case that the "skin" is much too thick, and they're not bite sized, which is what tradition SJB's ought to be.
Mate's SLB's came, immediately you can tell it won't be good as the skin is mad thick. Took a bite, once again, no flavour (it's the same batch of meat). Contrary to other restaurants where the SJB's are packed with soup cuz they're too lazy to make different batches of meet for the different Bao's, this place is a complete reverse where the SLB's have very little soup. So all in all, by the time we were finished, we were
1) disppointed
2) confused
3) mad (mainly me.......cuz of the suit)
don't bother going btw.
