在銅鑼灣要吃日本菜, 來來去去都是那幾棟大廈, 這次我們上試試新食點, 就是酒處。午飯時分人不算太多, 選擇亦不算很多 (這很適合我, 因為太多選擇我會無法抉擇, haha)最終選了壽司定食, 大約十件壽司(亞大概記得有三文魚, 吞拿魚, 油甘魚, 海膽, 帶子...太多了, 記不下) + 4件小卷, 另外再加湯和烏冬 (可選蕎麥麵)。壽司新鮮, 烏冬也煮得不錯, 不會太硬也不會太"林", 味道是不過不失的, 但份量真的太大, 吃不下的實在是很浪費呢!

南瓜沙律 ~ 似人地吃碎蛋的整法 , 頗新鮮 , 但口感差D (PS.唔似沙律)
鐵板燒年糕 ~ 口感唔錯 (女士應頗喜歡)
燒洒 + 硫打水 + 果汁 x 2

So I came here with an old classmate of mine to catch up. Just wanted a place to talk an enjoy some good food. Since he drove his car we didn't drink tonight. This is my 2nd time here. Last time I came here I didn't bring my camera Environment: The place is a little on the small side but I don't necessarily feel it is cramped. Environment: The place is a little on the small side but I don't necessarily feel it is cramped. I kind of like restaurants that are a little better lit (better for photos) and it was nicely lit here at Irori. Not bad.

Service: At times we seem to have a tough time flagging down a waitress and they seemed a little rushed but outside of that the service overall was pretty good. Food came relatively quickly and no mistakes.

Food: Since there was only 2 of us we couldn't order all that much. Kind of a shame my buddy doesn't eat tomatoes or cow tongue since I think both those dishes are done quite nice here.

Deep Fried Beef Roll (牛肉炸卷) - To me this was pretty awesome way to start. The beef roll was super crispy and piping hot. The beef inside was flavorful. The dipping sauce, which tasted a little like a sweet sesame salad dressing, was a nice contrast to the savory beef roll. Good way to start.

Deep Fried Chicken Cartilage (炸雞軟骨) - I think this would be great food to eat with beer but sadly we did not have beer tonight (since my friend had to drive home). The cartilage was crunchy and addictive. Nice.

Japanese Rice Cake Pizza (日式年糕薄餅) - Always a conversation starter. They are a little on the heavy side for 2 people (so 3 pizzas each) but I love how chewy it is. This could have been served hotter (plus I made matters a little worse due to my photo taking) but overall it's a fun tasty dish.

Sushi Set (自選壽司拼盤) - We ended the night with the sushi set. Basically you can choose 8 types of sushi (no duplicates) and 1 roll for $250. Sushi was fresh pretty tasty. Definitely above average but not necessarily a great dish per say.

Irori is definitely not a cheap place but I would say the food was enjoyable. Definitely will order their Sesame Sauce Tomato Salad (麻醬番茄沙律) and Fried Ox Tongue with Green Onion (蔥燒牛舌) next time I come here. A little light but overall a good meal.

Irori is located on Yiu Wa Street, in the same building as my beloved B.A.R whiskey bar. I had been meaning to try it, and have heard promising recommendations from others, but only got around to it on this night. A friend was in town, and I had received good news, so we decided to splurge a little on some (supposedly) good Japanese food.

First thing I ordered was a draft beer. They had Sapporo on draft, which made me extremely happy, and perhaps was a good omen for things to come. My friend is allergic to beer, so to continue we ordered some shochu that came recommended by our Japanese waitress. I don't remember the name of what we drank..... we had a lot.

I do remember what we ate though, and wow we ate a lot. I am not kidding when I said everything was extremely memorable. For sashimi, we ordered ikura (fish roe), aburi toro (seared chu-toro), chu-toro (raw toro) and uni (sea urchin). While prices are not cheap, the portions they give are great (six pieces for both toro dishes, quite a sizable bowl of ikura and a heap of uni) and the quality amazing. The uni I had has been undoubtedly some of the best I have had in HK. It lacks the pungency of cheap uni, but is wickedly rich and creamy. The raw toro was difficult to grab because it was so tender that it fell of the chopsticks, and the texture was heavenly as it melted in your mouth. The ikura was also beautiful and had a great taste (my friend ate most of it). The only disappointment was the seared toro, which is usually a sure-fire crowd pleaser. The toro they used was inconsistent with that of raw toro, it was too chewy. They seared the sides instead of the main part, which emphasized the rawness, and in this case the chewiness.

For cooked food we ordered the deep-fried chicken cartilage, grilled ox tongue, "mochi pizza", and grilled tuna jaw. The ox tongue was solid, mixed in with some sauce (probably some kind of soy sauce) and a healthy amount of spring onions. The grilled tuna jaw was a very generous portion, but suffered in quality. It was a little overcooked, and did not have the tenderness that I come to expect from ordering it, but it was by no means bad. The mochi pizza was original, and is often mentioned as a must try if visiting here. It is definitely quite a take on pizza, and the taste was good, definitely worth a taste. The chicken cartilage was so good we ordered one more portion. It is *the* perfect beer chaser, or whatever-alcohol-you-are-drinking chaser. It has a great salty taste, just the right crispiness, and is as addictive as anything I've had.

For me though, what stole the whole dinner was the fish roe potato salad (metaimo). It was divine... ethereal... almost perfect. Okay, perhaps I am playing the dish up a bit, but if you love potato salad as much as I do, it is amazing when you find one that absolutely delights your taste buds like this one. The potato salad by itself is already good and well, but fine fish eggs (metaiko) are mixed in with it, so some scoops will contain an extra zing of the salty, spicy flavor of the eggs. They also provide fresh crispy seaweed to wrap around the salad, providing a wonderful contrast of the soft creamy texture of the potato and the crunchiness of the seaweed. We ordered another dish of this two because one simply was not enough.

Before we knew it, we were stuffed to the neck and pretty out of it from all the shochu (but it did not stop us from heading up to the bar). It was truly an amazing meal, and I have absolutely no reservations recommending this to anyone. I actually wanted to return here for at least one more meal before I had to leave Hong Kong again... but couldn't find the time. Service was timely, and the new smoking ban is much welcomed, as I can imagine it smoke-filled from the cigarettes of Japanese businessmen.

The bill came out to be quite steep, but without any reservations, I recommend this place for anyone who would like to have a great Japanese meal. The atmosphere, service and most importantly food here just clicks. I will be returning when I get the chance!

坦白講如果唔係朋友介紹,都唔會搵到這間日本餐廳。6點半來到,只有兩檯客人,第一句不是“歡迎光臨”而是“8點交檯”,訂位時沒有事先聲明。我們四個人坐在靜靜的一角,真係靜到無人招呼。叫個侍應來落單、加水等等都要叫三四次先有人來,點了日式年糕薄餅、冷麵沙律及和牛泡菜卷等共8碟食物,味道不錯。可惜服務真是有待改善,侍應黑口黑面,態度冷漠,7:50已經自動埋單及執剩柸茶,擺明趕客。這餐價值$820的晚餐,我想在這裡可一不可再。

對日替興趣不大, 叫了吉列蠔定食 (好似 $88), 跟漬物, 前菜, 蒸蛋, 味噌湯及白飯:-

前菜係醋漬三文魚, 勁酸
, 帶點 citrus 水果的味道 (??), 夠晒開胃.

蒸蛋嚴重唔夠滑, 仲有點「實淨」, 朋友直程話質感似啫喱??
配料有鳴門卷, 蝦, 雞肉及冬菇, 冬菇喺面頭乾爭爭的, 不過食落其實幾軟熟又好濃菇香, 整體都可以的.

味噌湯熱辣辣, 落了唔少昆布及豆腐, 味道清清哋, 又不錯.

吉列蠔一客 5 隻炸得金黃, 食第一隻覺得酥脆又無油, 隻蠔唔算肥美, 仲帶點腥苦, wtf?
不過食第 2 / 3 / 4 / 5隻, 就一樣酥脆無油, 但就鮮嫩又多汁, 好彩啫. 醬汁有 3 款, 分別係蛋黃醬, 梅子醋汁 (??) 及 mustard, 喜歡前兩者的酸酸甜甜, 蛋黃醬就多一份 creamy 及蛋香, 用嚟蘸炸蠔, 正

白飯米香一般, 但粒粒飽滿黏口又煙韌, 最後又係食到一粒都無剩


最後來杯咖啡, 呢個就麻麻哋 -- 聞落香味唔夠, 咖啡 base 有點稀,「齋飲」唔酸, 但苦而不醇, 落糖及 UCC coffee creamer 後就較滑, 但咖啡味仍然淡, 有點「衰收尾」的感覺.


朋友食碎三文魚腩 + 三文魚刺身 don 配熱蕎麥麵 (亦可選烏冬), 跟漬物, 前菜, 菜沙律及蒸蛋:-

蕎麥麵份量勁大, 試了少少覺得湯幾清甜, 蕎麥麵隱隱有專香, 但太腍了, 我食緊機製上海拉麵?


又試了少少三文魚腩茸, 落了豉油及 wasabi 都好似唔夠味...??


仲有最後的芝麻雪糕, 好香濃, 仲有粒粒的芝麻碎, 香上加香, 早知唔飲咖啡啦.


環境亦不錯, 燈光較暗, 但幾舒服; 招呼就認真麻麻, 店員們態度散漫, 又唔多禮貌, 不過唔知遇著日本客佢哋會唔會係另一個樣?

連加一每人約 $100, 食物不錯, 都不失為一個 lunch 的好地方. 唔知幾時有機會試試 dinner? 食友們的火焰牛柳, 蟹味噌及年糕薄餅相片好吸引!

I stumbled on this last weekend and it was a good find! Always been under my nose - considering how often I'm in Causeway Bay - but never heard of it. Well, the power of the internet ... is just powerful. And so, armed even with recommended dishes from other bloggers, off we went in search of a non-descript building on Yiu Wa Street. We started with the pumpkin salad - 2 ice cream scoops of mashed pumpkin with bits of hard boiled egg. Very similar to a Japanese potato salad but I just like spuds more. Wasn't bad though.

First time - so a cautious order of Hirame sashimi.

The sashimi was fresh and there was a generous serving of condiments. Well cut with no stringy bites. Bonus: we got what I believe is the thin muscle of the dorsal fin, on the side of the fish. Higher in fat content, juicier and softer, and a richer finish. Very good.

Next up: the minced tuna canapes topped off with nothing but rich Japanese mayo. Decadent richness and surprisingly not oily at all but a superbly good combination. Served on slices of baguette, the fusion was interesting in a positive way.

The novelty of the joint was the grilled mochi balls with a pizza twist. With bits of tomato and bacon on the inside, the combination is quite yummy. Only complaint: took a lot of chewing to down 3 balls. I think a max of 2 per person would be perfect, greed factor aside.

My favourite was the vinegared mackeral pressed sushi, Osaka style. Very high quality mackeral and not vinegared to a pulp, this was almost catch-of-the-day fresh, with a nice twist of acid, nudged against a decent bed of rice interspersed with torn Perilla leaves, topped off with a glossy translucent seaweed, adding to texture. Definitely one of the better ones I've eaten outside of Japan. I would go back alone just to have this. The 6 pieces would make a nice light lunch for one.

A quiet place to hang out above the hustle and bustle of Causeway Bay, with interesting concoctions and they even have baby bottles of sake for the less initiated (or if you need to drive).

Finally, after several failed attempts to visit this Japanese Izakaya, tonight was my lucky day! I have herd many good things about this place from various food blogs as well as my friends. Ever since I starting my food blog, my memory can no longer contain the long list of want-to-try restaurants. With my friend's suggestion, I now write down all my want-to-try restaurants in my little black notebook and carry it around. My list is getting longer and longer on a daily basis but good that my visit to Irori this evening and save me a line in the notebook for a new one to be added very soon!

(1) Flamed Broiled Beef
It was a very nice dish to start off with because the sauce was slightly vinegary and together with the med-rare broiler beef slices which were rich in beef taste, it was a rather refreshing dish. The deep fried minced garlic was a good match with the beef. Well prepared! Thumbs up!

(2) Deep-fried beef roll
We were into beef tonight for some reasons so this second dish was beef as well. The roll was not oily or greasy after being deep-fried. (Maybe the sliced lettuce at the bottom absorbed the oil?) In either case, it was crispy and non-greasy, plus the taste of the dough (ie: flour) did not overtake the flavors of the beef inside. Very nice! The sauce was another delightful surprise. From the look of it, we though it was some salad dressing or sauce that contained peanuts, but it turned out both of us were wrong, it was a sour-based sauce. It was actually a good combination with the fried roll. Even for a deep-fried item like this, it carried a refreshing flavor from the sauce. Another well prepared dish.

(3) Broiled Amberjack with Salt
It was between Amberjack and Cod, we picked this because it would be more meaty. It was served very soon after we ordered, maybe it was a very popular item that a few were on the grill just in case diners order it. Anyways, it was served hot throughout the whole piece so I was happy with it. It was tender and more meaty as expected but a little bit more salt would be nice. Not bad at all!

(4) Japanese Rice Cake Pizza
It tasted just like a pizza but with a more chewy texture to it. Instead of using tomato paste or sauce, a tomato slices were used instead which gave each piece the right among of tomato flavors, not too sour and not to sweet (since it is freshly sliced tomato, no sugar should have been added I assumed). A very interesting combination of ingredients especially with the use of traditional Japanese rice cake which is a common item during the new year period. I recalled during my last visit to Japan, it was during the New Year period and I tried a simple Rice Cake wrapped with seaweed sheet (or Nori Sheet) from those street vendors. It was so good and so was the Japanese Rice Cake Pizza here. Well done!

(5) Whale Meat
It took me a long while before I finally decided to order this. I was kind of reluctant to order it because it was whale meat! The staff highly recommended it because it was a seasonal item and as a foodie / food lover, I kept on telling myself that I should give it a try. It was cooked according to the staff and it has the texture similar to ham but slightly firmer. The red part I assumed was the meat part while the white part was be fat. It came with a small amount of mustard because the flavor of whale meat was ... humm ... tasteless. The red part was slightly salty but I think it was due to the adding of salt during the cooking process. Honestly, I can't find anything special about whale meat, especially the fact that it was rather tasteless; therefore, I don't think I will order whale meat at this place again or at any other places even if it were seasonal item ... so SAVE THE WHALE!

(6) Hot Plate Bean curd steak
Nothing special about this dish. The sauce was alright and the tofu has a stronger and rich enough soy bean flavors to it but it would be better if the hot plate was actually hot or sizzling because the item turn cold very fast especially when all items seemed to come all at once. Maybe that was why the tofu itself seemed a bit too firm in my opinion.

The friend's first reaction on this dish was that she can cook this at home and maybe even better. I have to agree with her because it was rather ... humm ... plain and homemade styled omelet with very little leek inside. It was very much like an omelet I would cook at home. The egg has a strong flavor than the leek as well (which means not enough leek!)

Likes:

* Flamed Broiled Beef - a refreshing dish to start off the meal with
* Deep-fried beef roll - although deep-fried, not too heavy or greasy, it was rather refreshing together with the slightly vinegar-y sauce.
* Japanese Rice Cake Pizza - a chewy version of pizza, not bad at all

Dislikes:

* Items were being served too quickly, almost all at once.
* Egg Roll with Leek - not enough leek, a very ordinary item

很久之前去過這間叫irori 的日本餐廳, 當時仲記得地址係在 sogo 隔離棟大夏, 如今搬了來時代這邊, 是首次幫襯的新的餐牌, 不再是只照顧日本人, 加入了很多中文, 最大的進步, 係加入了很多美麗的食物相, 令人可以看完食物的模樣才決定要唔要食, 抵讚!兩個人食, 一個湯豆腐, 一客牛肉卷, 一碟火焰牛柳, 再加一枝ebisu, 已經好夠, 湯豆腐係無味的, 有金菇, 菠菜, 紅蘿蔔同幾件豆腐, 要味, 就要用提供的豉油, 仲可以自己加蒜加蔥, 日本餐沒有像炒菜心的菜色, 要食菜其實絛幾多選擇牛肉卷其實以前已經食過, 此店做得好好味, 吉列的外層, 一點都不肥膩, 因為日式的做法一定會把油索乾, 比中國餐的油炸, 日本的可取得多, 牛肉卷點特製的像千島醬的醬汁, 少少酸, 很開胃火焰牛柳由十多舊小牛柳圍圈切成, 牛柳好嫩, 汁有少少檸檬的味道, 好味! 用嚟送啤酒係一流! 日本料理之中, irori的質素係不容置疑的, 就算貴少少, 都係值得!

火焰牛柳由十多舊小牛柳圍圈切成, 牛柳好嫩, 汁有少少檸檬的味道, 好味! 用嚟送啤酒係一流!

日本料理之中, irori的質素係不容置疑的, 就算貴少少, 都係值得!

今晚去到酒處吃日本菜, 係朋友帶我去的, 佢話都好好食架上到去都幾多日本人幫襯, 日本人自己都去食的地方, 相信都應該幾地道, 不過, 打開餐牌, 發覺價錢都唔平, 好似一份壽司拚盆要二百八十蚊, 但只有一份手卷同自選八件壽司, 俾個budget朋友, 一人只係食百五蚊, 由佢發板啦, 叫左個鰻魚卷, 一碗月見烏冬, 一碟芝士春卷同一碗咖哩豬扒飯!個鰻魚卷好好味, 中間係牛油果同芝士, 以壽司飯同紫菜包住食, 一碟有六卷, 盛惠一百蚊, 不過貴係貴, 一咬落去的感覺又真係好好的月見烏冬即係雞蛋烏冬, 係另一個好食的選擇, 麵豉湯的味道好地道, 有好重的木魚味, 隻雞蛋係生的, 打落湯度, 因為湯夠熱, 撈云之後變成半生熟, 好好食, 因為好滑! 芝士春卷麻麻地, 六十蚊一客但只係炸春卷皮的味道做主導, 無特別的地方! 咖哩豬扒飯唔係唔好食, 不過無咩特別, 豬扒比較肥同多油!無食魚生, 因為價錢太高, 仲要係糧尾, 哈哈, 或者過兩日出左糧再去啦!

上次試過佢嘅刺身,今次就想試吓佢幾項出色嘅熱食。jun 10, 09, 2人來食lunch,叫咗 : 1) 南瓜沙律 (hk$60)-2個雪糕狀嘅南瓜沙律,所以1望就知喺軟身嘅南瓜泥-裡面混有蛋白,估計都應該有埋蛋黃,青瓜粒-個南瓜泥好甜-全憑個青瓜粒增添幾份咬口-好食 2) 日本燒年糕 (hk$70)-呢個好耐先上,要追,估應該漏了單-1客6小件-面頭嘅芝士撈埋煙肉粒,焗得好乾身同惹味-而年糕就焗到夕小脆,裡面煙韌-但最估唔到喺芝士煙肉同年糕中間嘅茄汁層-無諗過會用地x牌嘅茄汁...............友人就覺得呢個就格格不入............如果我唔喺茄汁怪,我都覺得幾怪吓 3) 甜品 (送)-因為要我哋久等個燒年糕,所以店員就送咗呢個甜品比我哋-喺椰子味-好清香嘅椰子味-食到有幼幼嘅椰子肉 4) 雞肉omelette定食 (hk$75)i) 沙律-正常 ii) omelette飯-我好想試嘅1個菜,所以訂之時,問清楚仲有無呢個午餐之選先嚟-上面嘅雞喺純煎蛋,煎得滑同嫩,但個蛋汁就近乎0,呢個就未能滿足到我-雞肉喺混咗喺個飯內,但都好少雞肉架咋-可能呢道菜全用上唔貴嘅料,

3) 甜品 (送)
-因為要我哋久等個燒年糕,所以店員就送咗呢個甜品比我哋
-喺椰子味
-好清香嘅椰子味
-食到有幼幼嘅椰子肉

4) 雞肉omelette定食 (hk$75)
i) 沙律
-正常

ii) omelette飯
-我好想試嘅1個菜,所以訂之時,問清楚仲有無呢個午餐之選先嚟
-上面嘅雞喺純煎蛋,煎得滑同嫩,但個蛋汁就近乎0,呢個就未能滿足到我
-雞肉喺混咗喺個飯內,但都好少雞肉架咋
-可能呢道菜全用上唔貴嘅料,所以底下珍珠米嘅份量真喺多得驚人,個米煙煙的
-我哋嗰日2個女仔,share住食咗南瓜沙律同呢個飯都已經夠晒飽..............好彩嗰日個年糕好尾先嚟,否則1齊上埋,都唔知點食

-我同友人都好飽,所以都無飲到

吃過這裡的日本餐, 留下幾深刻的印象這兒的裝修不算得很高級, 入門轉左之後兩個人被安排坐在卡位枱, 都算幾落, 餐牌有中文介紹, 隨意的揀了炸牛肉卷, 吞拿魚刺身 (骰仔), 芝士棒, 日式年糕同三文魚海膽飯!炸牛肉卷炸得個皮好鬆化, 裡面的牛肉肉質很好, 薄切而很好味, 難得係炸物但係完全沒有油膩的感覺吞拿魚刺身做成骰仔的形狀, 有唔同的部位, 有肥美的toro, 顏色係最淺, 有三粒, 有兩粒左右的中toro, 根多少少, 另外六七粒普通tuna, 刺身好食, 好有魚味, 沒有人工的添加, 是100%真正的魚生, 正芝士棒其實只是用來送酒的吧, 不過脆脆的都幾可口, 入面的芝士不算很多, 只係食到炸皮的味日式年糕用個鐵板來燒, 有半打, 面頭係茄汁肉醬加芝士, 味道幾特別, 年糕不算很煙un, 不過可能有芝士在上面, 變得很香口三文魚子海膽飯都係十分出色, 三文魚子舖滿飯面, 每粒都晶瑩剔透, 咬落去有濃香魚油"爆"出, 係上佳的魚子呢, 海膽就唔係咁好味, 食到入口條唔識"痺", 好味的海膽唔係咁..不過整體食物都做得十分出色, 可以一再來食!

Had uni-temaki and negi-toro temaki - both had more filling than I expected but were not particularly fresh, although I did not expect an izakaya to provide exceptional raw fish anyway and the seaweed was served sufficiently crunchy. However the eel and cheese maki was a disappointment - the amount of rice used was too much and thus disproportionate to the amount of ingredients wrapped inside. Also had an "irori special" lunch set which looked more like a platter of random stuff including curry rice, deep-fried shrimps, some agemono, gobou salad, 2 odd pieces of asparagus and half a cherry tomato. Nothing tasted particularly bad but nothing particularly good either...not worth saying any more. and same goes to the udon I had that day...
might come back to try more izakaya-orientated food, but probably not soon

吃完首輪前菜後,商量過,決定唔吃無「實用」價值的刺身壽司,轉戰一些家常小料理,要了炆豬腸年糕薄餅。豬大腸伴著蒟蒻、紅蘿蔔、日本淮山同豆腐等材料以麵豉醬炆煮,麵豉醬味道不算濃厚,但鹹得近乎苦的程度,同食友試了幾口,各款材料確是炆得入味,豬腸軟腍唔羶,蒟蒻亦炆到鹹入芯的效果,但真的好鹹,如能減鹹加重麵豉應有的豆香,會更好吃。

至於芝士年糕薄餅,用鐵板盛上,日本年糕先烤過香糯美味,中間夾著炒過的煙肉洋蔥,又加入了番茄及芝士去焗,既香濃又有番茄的甜美,是不錯的西日式小料理。

吃了兩輪得意又美味的助酒小料理,簡單的材料組合出不一樣的味道,比起刺身壽司來得更稱心,談談食、影影相,是寫意有趣的一夜,埋單約二百二十元,不錯的質素以居酒屋來說,不貴了,謝食友的消膩靚茶!
