有2塊toast2條腸2隻蛋2塊bacon一舊black pudding一堆mushroom半個tomato同埋bake beans
跟餐有橙汁 (或者可以選擇coffee or tea)
真心好足料 橙汁都係大大杯唔似flying pan....... -___-
其實我心底裡好想嗌hash brown個set, 但係最後都係算數, 要左最traditional果個set
特別一提其實係 我係英國都食過好多好難食ge black pudding但係li度味道岩岩好 唔會太咸

之後個steak & kidney pie, 我地跟chip and mashy peas (可以要mash potato 同 bake beans)
D薯條真係薯條 粗身入面好粉果一種 唔使點茄汁撒少少鹽已經完美了
沾上青豆蓉味道更佳
天呀, 我有幾耐無食過咁完美ge薯條 令我完全忘記左個pie....XDDDD
其實個pie都唔係唔好 牛肉粒唔會太老
批皮雖然係硬到只係用泥裝住D steak & kidney 唔會食
但係的確同我係英國見到ge一樣XD 所以我真係唔會怪佢 XDDDD

2個女孩子當然係食唔曬....
好浪費 /_\ 真係罪過........
不過有機會真係會再泥

Attracted by it's British style decoration, and the hand-written blackboard, I thought I was back to England. I tried the signature fish and chip with cod fish. There are not many places in Hong Kong would tell you the fish that they used. I have an interesting of trying few foods and weight the value. Fish and Chip is one of them (the others are fish ball and laska).

The piece of fish is in a right size, the batter is thin so you have to bite and chew the meat. I would expect more moisture from the fish, was it overcooked? The home-made chip is excellent. It is definitely the UK style chips. I also like the mash potatoes, so creamy and smooth.

We also tried the pickled egg. It is only a hard boiled egg and preserved in brine. The taste is having abit of vinegar, not too salty and honestly, quite refreshing with a bite of chip.

Apart from fish and chips, they also served the typical English breakfast and pies. If you fancy the 'local' way of Mars Bar, you are in the right place. It is a dessert invented in England. A Mars Bar dip with a layer of batter and deep fry it. Worth to try.

I will go back next time and try the English breakfast and sausages!

The Setting

The Food
Despite being known for their Fish & Chips, I opted for their pie instead. I've always found deep fried fish to be too greasy, not just here but in general. I ordered the Beef and Onion Pie with a side of chips and baked beans.

The pie was surprisingly good. Plenty of flavour, tender beef and buttery crust. Ditto for the chips (with and without vinegar). Those of you expecting crispy chios take heed; these are traditionally made so soft better describes these more accurately. The baked beans were nothing to write home about but the primary items were sufficiently good to lead to a satisfying meal.

The Somewhat Ugly
The primary cooking method is deep-frying, which means the smell of oil hangs thick in the air. You will come out of here smelling like you just manned the grease fryer at a diner. Those of you who have important meetings after lunch may want to consider takeout. The other issue is price. I've always believe the prerequisite for comfort food would be good value, and Chippy teaters on the edge in terms of affordability. I ended up paying $100, which isn't expensive, but is pricey enough that I wouldn't make this place a regular spot.

That said, the food does come across as genuine (a notion supported by my Brit colleagues) so if you want to splurge a little once a week, Chippy should be strongly considered.

女友帶我來的,話這裡極有英倫風味,招牌係炸魚柳和薯條,極受歡迎,這些是去英國必食的,等於去加拿大要食熱狗,在香港要吉魚蛋,人手寫的餐牌,薯容都算滑,羊腸初時食落有好強「穌」味,食到第二條就又「穌」又咸,要加些番茄豆伴吃,魚柳係大塊呀!但係無味的,所以要點沙律醬伴食,粗身薯條,粗過手指,好味過M記薯條,開放式廚房,整齊乾淨,食一次,都好難再來,食物唔係難食,但要俾舊幾食這些,我會肉痛的。

來到差不多打烊,店內剩下一對中年老外食客.牆上的黑版已寫上有什麼菜式,全部是英倫之味道.生啤只得Stella Arotis,其他的是樽裝或罐裝.魚類只得兩三款,如果硬要將它與倫敦Covent Garden炸魚薯條名店"Rock and Sole Plaice"比,單是魚類選擇,後者多幾條街.

Fish cake是地道英倫食物,大多外賣店也有供應.薯條是正宗的粗切,Mushy peas是我最喜歡之配搭.此炸魚餅外層不厚,脆獎不硬而鬆化.內裏包著的鱈魚,已經是一絲絲的魚肉,味道有魚的鮮味,沒有腥臭雪藏味,處理得宜,薯條大大條,啖啖豐厚薯仔肉,我吃此味一樣不加茄汁,只會下醋,現今英國人亦會點咖喱汁,或者是他他醬,是夜用來點薯條的是他他醬.Mushy Peas味道事實上沒有個人之處,只是當愛已成習慣,如果吃炸魚薯條沒有綠豆茸,似是欠缺了什麼.

為何我會喜歡綠豆茸?很簡單,數回上世紀末某一個周日下午,第一次到自己擁護球會的主場觀看比賽,那時我便是帶了一盒炸魚薯條入內,配料是Mushy peas,結果,該場己隊勝二比零.有時候喜歡一種食物,並不是特別好味,而是有一種特別的意義,久而久之,成為了一種美好的回憶.如果每次都要講求味道,未免太過冷漠無情了.畢竟對一個地方產生感情之後,吃的不再是停留味道之層次,而是吃著文化.

CHIPPY is a UK Fish & Chips shop which was started by a British Chef back in the days.... everything from UK Style All Day Breakfasts to Fish, Pies, Saveloy to Black Puddings, you can find here. Its now operated by an Indian owner who took over the shop from the original Chef, who'd left overseas. My meal preceding this wasn't very filling ~ so I destination bound to come eat their Fried Mars Bar for dessert, a Scottish invention & something u find in some Fish & Chips shops in Australia

My meal preceding this wasn't very filling ~ so I destination bound to come eat their Fried Mars Bar for dessert, a Scottish invention & something u find in some Fish & Chips shops in Australia & UK. Mars Bar has also changed their formulation recently, as the previous 15% Saturated Fat has been removed by using substitutes, so its another reason to try it. Coated in Batter before frying, I would prefer if the batter was more crunchier but nevertheless, its enjoyable.

Greasy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside.Fries are the big, chunky variety - not bad, always hot - too hot. I also order gravy with the fries and tartar sause on the side. Yes, I'm North American and can't bring myself to calling them chips (chips to us are what you call crisps).Meat pies are also good - I go for these when not in mood for greasy fish.Service is quick

Envrionment: The place is small and only for about 15 customers at one time. The decoration is very basic. I like the use of black-boards and chalk for the daily specials. However, the ventilation is very poor, a strong greasy odour even a man with a flu can smell.Food: The fish is okay. The chips are very chunky which one can expect from a British restaurant. Envrionment:
The place is small and only for about 15 customers at one time. The decoration is very basic. I like the use of black-boards and chalk for the daily specials. However, the ventilation is very poor, a strong greasy odour even a man with a flu can smell.

Food: The fish is okay. The chips are very chunky which one can expect from a British restaurant. The availability of A-1, HP sauces and brown vineger is just perfect for the Britiish-styled dishes.

Service: The service is so-so. Not great and not bad.

Bonus: The Times and the News of the World are available.

今早找早餐, 路過石版街, Fish & Chips 梵音又再之響起, 中午早放, 口中又諗著Fish & Chips, 帶領我到來.一坐底, 這是傳統英國(有得坐)既Chippy, 除我一個華人外, 都是外籍人士居多.入得Chippy, 當然要炸魚薯條, 中午餐用Sole Fillet, 一向不喜歡Mash Peas, 叫Baked Beans 做伴菜.炸魚, 正式英式炸法, 層粉皮厚度適中, 加上 Tartar Source, 而且薯條是生切薯條, 應真令人懷念.叫了一杯咖啡, Well! 個Set lunch要$90, 對我們中產人士, lunch, 貴!!

一般我在工作時間之內(包括午飯時間),我都盡量不會主動喝有酒精成份的飲品,不過這天終於破例了。今天用膳的地方是頗隱蔽的Chippy,由下而上沿著石級一步步的走,看著地上的石級都是由當時的村民合力從海旁一步一步慢慢地抬上來堆而成。只有簡陋工具可用的村民,這份為其他市民無私服務的精神,實在值得一再提起溫故知新一番。我一進店的時候,看到了跟上次(大約一年前)的裝份不一樣了。之前有很多小擺設和裝飾品,現在反而變得簡潔,加上用上了白和小許藍色,感覺上更令人舒服。看一下餐牌,發現加價了不少,或者是新人仕新作風,加上物價高漲,一點點的加幅還是可以接受。因為忘了先去ATM多拿點錢,身上的現金有限,最後只要了一份炸魚薯條午餐套餐。剛落了單後,才發現兩位(應該是菲籍)侍應穿著接近水手裝的衣服,頗有趣。不一會熱湯便奉上來了,今天的是忌廉椰菜花湯。它沒有一般忌廉湯般杰,但是味道卻很出色。香滑的忌廉加上了一點點牛油香味,以及那一點點的椰菜花清新味道,對我來說甚感滿意。不知何時的衝動,著侍應幫我選一支濃味的啤酒。這支啤酒當然也是來自英國,味道真的比一般的濃上數倍,口感不是滑溜而是頗刺激著口腔內每個細胞的那種感覺。

忌廉椰菜花湯。它沒有一般忌廉湯般杰,但是味道卻很出色。香滑的忌廉加上了一點點牛油香味,以及那一點點的椰菜花清新味道,對我來說甚感滿意。

不知何時的衝動,著侍應幫我選一支濃味的啤酒。這支啤酒當然也是來自英國,味道真的比一般的濃上數倍,口感不是滑溜而是頗刺激著口腔內每個細胞的那種感覺。

最後來的當然是Fish & Chip,薯條的色水有點兒好像炸過了火。薯條味道仍舊一樣的美味,侍應在剛炸好時加入適量的醋和鹽來"掛味",所以薯條在吃下去時會有一點點的甜味。

Mushy peas就是經調味的"壓扁"青豆,調味料用上了香草、黑椒和鹽,清淡而濃厚的口感,跟其他炸物的味道完全相反。

午市套餐用的是Sole Fillet,跟COD和Hablibut味道自然差了一截,不過也未至於淡而無味。難得的是沒有一丁點魚腥味,炸粉也相當的薄而脆口,感覺上比之前的"一手"做得更有水準。


一般食店在轉手後食物水準會下降,難得的是這裡沒有出現這個情況,反而在某方面比之前的做得更水色。離開時侍應打趣的問了小弟的名字,接著又問我會否再來光顧。我回頭笑著點了一下頭便步出店外了......
