I've visited DACHA a few times alredy and it never dissapaionts. Recently, we've visited it again for lunch and totally loved it. DACHA's lunch sets come with Bortsch and a choice of main. My favourite main on the menu - Pirogi ( or "Pelmeni" we call them in Russia, "Meat Dumpling" we call them in HK) are really delicious, and are also served with a nice thick sour cream! Yam! And now to the best part, they have amazing cakes. Medovik cake ( which is a honey layer cake) is simply awesome. Light and tasteful at the same time. I had one there and took one home for later, hahah. ;) The staff is effecient and pleasant. Verdict: this is the best Russian food in Hong Kong. Highly recommended - for home made Russian food and great cakes!

Complimentary Sourdough & Lard

Before our food came we got some complimentary brown sourdough bread, tastefully presented in a nice basket with scome scallions, and some garlic lard. The bread was thin-sliced, relatively dense, and noticeably sour. For free bread at the beginning of a meal, I thought this was great: it had lots of character. Most of the time I wouldn't even think about the bread or take a picture of it.
Caviar & Blinis

Next we got the blinis, which are a type of crepe, with sour cream and caviar. I will say that my wife picked this because she wanted to try a classic dish she had never had, which is eminently reasonable. I would personally never have picked this, because I don't particularly care for sour cream and I especially don't care for lots and lots of sour cream. Throw some salty fish eggs in there and you're just trying to make me not like it. So I apologize, I don't fault the restaurant for serving this and I don't fault other patrons who wish to partake. But it's not for me.
Pierogi w/ Cabbage

Since the main dish we got had mashed potatoes we decided on the cabbage pierogi, which are braised and served with mushrooms. I can't say how they stack up to other pierogis, because I have a very limited experience, but I definitely thought they were tasty, the dough had a nice texture, and the mushrooms were delicious. I would get this again if I came back.
Meat Kotleki

Our main dish was the meat kotletki: beef and pork patties w/ mashed potatoes. I've seen kotletki ("cutlets") described as "Russian burgers" online, but they are really more akin to meatloaf, in my opinion. They are crispy on the outside with ground pork, ground beef, breadcrumbs and onions inside. The mashed potatoes they come with are a great texture, and quite flavorful. I liked this dish, but I sorta wished there was a sauce. From looking around online, mushroom or tomato sauce is frequently served with this dish, and I think either would have amped it up significantly.

For dessert we wanted to get the honey cake, but they were out of that so we got the Napolean cake. I'm not a real big dessert person but I thought it was pretty good. Not too sweet, and a nice texture.

This place seems to still be working out the kinks. The menu certainly seems to be a work-in-progress: some items that Dacha's website says are on the menu, for example, beef Stroganoff, are not on the menu. Some items that other reviewers ordered are no longer on the menu, such as the vegetable pierogi described by Time Out HK.

But that's OK. The restaurant has a very nice look and feel to it, a sort of genuineness that one doesn't get when the big restaurant groups hire some famous chef to cook the food of some country he once flew over. All the food we got was high quality and nicely presented. I would come back as I would still like to try the potato pierogi and the pelmeni. And if they ever get beef Stroganoff on the menu, that too.
Other Info. : We got a reservation, but that didn't seem particularly necessary. Easy to do on their website, however.

The Pelmenis are the exquisite Russian dumplings coated with herbs. Their homemade dumpling dough is quite chewy and the meat filling is very juicy!
Last but not least I am really impressed by the Honey Cake. For me the sweetness was just perfect and I could taste the scent of honey in every bite. After this meal I couldn't help to order one more piece for takeaway!
I know that DaCha is still under soft opening until April. I will definitely come back next month with my friends to try their dinner menu.

Other Info.

The borsch was a vegetarian version that consisted of beetroot, potatoes and sour cream. The taste was just right, neither too sour nor too bland. Very refreshing indeed.

The piece of bread that came with the soup had a bit of what appears to be garlic oil being drizzled on it. That was good with the soup.

I ordered a bottle of Ukranian/Russian malt drink “Kvas”. It tasted a bit like a sweet version of dunkle (alcohol free, of course). Interesting and rather filling.

The Pierogi (filled dumplings popular in Eastern Europe) was filled with mashed potato. At first, I thought I had to order more food for lunch, probably another pierogi. However, since the pierogi were stir fried with butter and filled with potato, it was surprisingly filling. The taste was simple but good. Down to earth and homely.

Just in case, I ordered a sweet honey cake as recommended by the owner of Dacha. She was confident enough to say that if I did not like it, she would not charge me for it. Needless to say, I ordered it.

It tasted great as promised. The texture was somewhere between a carrot cake and a tiramisu. The taste of the honey was pronounced but not overwhelming. It was a satisfying end to a good lunch. The honey cake was as sweet as the two lovely Ukrainian ladies who served us.

I would recommend Dacha for someone who wanted a simple, relaxed lunch or tea. I am looking forward to their formal opening. I recommend adding different types of herbal tea to their menu as this place seems perfect for having a quiet and relaxed cup of tea in the midst of Central.

I have always wanted to try Russian/Ukrainian food but there are not many in Hong Kong.
The only one I knew was Ivan da Kozak which has been in HK for a while.
I have attempted to dine at Ivans but the menu is too complicated if you have menu dyslexia.

Noticed Dacha a few weeks ago because of the lovely mysterious European decor.

Even though it was under soft opening I still had to try it.

They were serving lunch sets all day so I was really lucky because I don't work in Central.
The soup was beetroot borscht which was loaded with cabbages and carrots with a refreshing taste.
The dumplings tasted exactly the same as Chinese war teeps but better because they were neat and not so oily.

The apple pie (bread) was a bit disappointing because the texture was like Chinese bread with a yolk glazed top but the locals should love it.
