To promote a new salt and sugar reduction (RSS) dietary culture and living style to the people of Hong Kong, the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Committee on Reduction of Salt and Sugar in Food and the Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department have launched the "Less-Salt-and-Sugar Restaurants Scheme" ("Scheme"). When looking for a restaurant last minute on a Friday, you can generally bet that none of the really nice places will have space. When looking for a restaurant last minute on a Friday, you can generally bet that none of the really nice places will have space. After a map search on Openrice I found La Parole and figured it looked worth a try....and we discovered an absolute hidden gem!

Food:

Guest 1 – Foie Gras for entrée which was very good quality and a large portion, yum! Roasted Milk Lamb for main which was perfectly cooked to medium rare, melt in your mouth meat and very tasty. For desert they had the chocolate in different modes which was similar to a death by chocolate experience, good variety of chocolate and beautifully presented…and yum!

Guest 2 – Lobster in a glass for entrée which was a little light on the lobster and crab pieces, but still a very nice taste and the basil jelly was something different that none of us had tried before. Rib eye for main which was perfectly cooked and very tender, a decent size piece of meat, tough choice between this and the lamb as a favourite. For desert the cheese platter, which considering it’s a set menu was very nice selection of cheese.

Guest 3 - Tartare of marinated scallops for entrée which was beautifully presented, but there was a strong ‘fishy’ smell and taste that put this guest off. I wouldn’t say it was bad, in fact I believe that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Salmon two ways for main which was again very well presented and tasty, melt in your mouth, but the portion size was a little small. Crème brulèe for desert, perfectly glazed top, warm and full of flavour…a must have!

The food overall was excellent, and good value for money, we were all full.

Service:

Absolutely excellent, the head waitress didn’t stop smiling the whole night which added such a warm feel to the service. She understood the sequence of service and took everything into consideration when looking after the table. Wine was topped up regularly, not too much not too little…so rare in HK. Even where some of the other wait staff let them down, she picked things up quickly and corrected any problems.

Atmosphere:

Plenty of space between the tables, not too noisy, great lighting, we felt like we were in a super expensive restaurant in central somewhere, not just outside Sheung Wan station.

Price:

A little pricier than typical Sheung Wan restaurants, but worth every cent, great to see good quality restaurants like this popping up everywhere in this area.

To top things off we found out that the restaurant is a Social Enterprise recognized by the Hong Kong SAR Government….great work!

If you live in the area, this is an absolute must try…we’ll be back!

我係主場,用餐地點由我話事。醒起La Parole這間有意義的餐廳,便自把自為,致電去訂了位。安頓好,對方觀察一陣,便說這裡的裝修和配套不太像法國餐廳,還說出了她的看法,專家果然是專家。我也嚐試用極有限的知識向她講講有關這餐廳的故事,以及香港餐飲行業的一些事。

晚餐有3Course, 4 Course以及一款6 Course的廚師特別推介餐單,當中6 Course的食物是每天不同,廚子會把最好的做給你吃,也是要問及侍者才會知道餐單的內容,有點兒像Omakase,有趣,就來這個。Welcome Food,是吞拿魚撻,餅底鬆脆,吞拿魚茸軟滑,是恰當的小食。

點餐後,侍者便奉上餐包和香檳,麵包兩款,均只是普通,主要是熱度不足,亦算不上軟熟,為保留食力,只嚐了少許。對香檳沒硏究,只覺這是平易近人的貨色。

第一道菜是生蠔,法國產地,但現在似乎不是最佳的季節。因此,蠔本身稱不上肥美,味道不很甜,海水味也偏淡。但係,連吞三隻落肚,仍然滿足。

接著是湯品,有黑松露磨菇湯,每者會在客人面前把一小壺湯倒入圓碟內,這已是吃法國菜的基本動作。很喜歡這碗湯,黑松露的香氣真的濃郁得向我的鼻子撲過來,還有爽口的磨菇增強口感,令成件事的效果得以提升。

法式晚餐總離不開鵝肝,這次的擺盤幾有心思,以黑醋劃成高音符號,才放上鵝肝以及焦糖蘋果,底下還配點海鹽,像上美術課一樣。鵝肝的口感是嫩滑,味甘香,若外層能煎得更香一點,才是美滿。蘋果粒配鵝肝,是最正常不過的組合,沒什麼問題。

主菜之前,先來一杯雪葩清一清味蕾,然後再繼續,是對的。雪葩是青檸味,偏酸的,但我則幾喜歡,感覺很清新。

口腔清過了,是主菜的時候,首先係藍貝配帶子。藍貝size未算巨大,但肉質是極之嫩,味道亦好,很久沒吃過如此有質素的出品。帶子亦唔差的,質感至少是彈牙。這一味,值得讚賞。

再來的一道,賣相就比較平凡。不過,鴨胸其實亦是嫩滑,沾上幾款不同的醬汁,都可以合格。

甜品,是朱古力以及雪糕的組合。Brownie之上是朱古力餅,頂頭有小球雲尼拿雪糕,總的說都不錯,只是brownie可以再濃郁些少。中間的圖案以芒果醬弄成,旁邊再加熱情果雪糕,相當醒胃,正好中和朱古力的甜度,不錯!

是很飽足又充實的一餐,認識了很多東西,所以跟高人/ 專家接觸,總會有得益的。

It came with some warm bread which was nice.

My salad wasn’t that big as named and I do not really like it due to too little dressing. And the egg was too raw inside for a pouched egg on the salad.

My colleague said her pasta was so so, no surprise.

We were looking forward to the dessert but were disappointed as it wasn’t that good, I could only taste “Sweet” for the all the dessert pieces.

For a price for under $200, a 3 courses meal + tea or coffee, counting the environment and in Central area which is not a bad deal but there are many restaurants with better food at the Soho area.

路經上環,知柏廷坊有多間餐廳,walk-in便試了這間在3/F的 La Parole坐落看menu才知幾貴 - 4 course 要$468,加一後兩位要過千(即$1030),但即管試試!4 course包starter,湯,main course和dessert(3 course就少了個湯,平$50),main course老婆大人吃羊架(served with 超幼薯條,好脆),我吃white code(跟龍蝦汁墨魚闊麵),雖然羊架是十成熟,但外脆內仍有肉汁,不乾。食物賣相非常靚,如老婆吃的甜品就似藝術品不過提一提,食物份量不多,大食的就refill麵包!

評: presentation 好靚, Foie Gras 有三種不同冷, 曖和熱的食法. 份量也適中.
評: lobster salad: 味道較清, 不過跟上rocket salad葉就完全感覺好特別. 不過不是每個人都喜歡rocket既味道, 我本人就十分鐘意

main course: aged beef & Pan Fried white cod with cariver
評: Beef - 我要了個medium rare 牛, 出面一般餐廳一定最後會熟一點, 但 LA PAROLE煎得好靚, 全完100%是我心目中的medium rare. 值得一贊.
評: Pan Fried White Cod: 外煎香, 內里嫩滑. 魚下面有自家製的闊條麵. 好好味, 只少現在已經不多餐廳自家做意粉了

dessert
: Crusty Triangle of Pear Pie & Stawberry w/ vanilla ice-cream
評: 個 pear pie又是自家製的, 又香又脆... 最amazing 係個開心果ice cream 又係佢地自家做的.......我食完都想再叫一份~
評: stawberry 好新鮮, 我絕對你一個唔like stawberry 既人,因為好怕佢酸. 不過佢地d stawberry 好大粒, 完全唔酸, 加埋vinilla ice cream, 好好味.

(ps: 佢地d dessert, 真係好好好好味, 連ice cream都係自己整, 加埋最後杯coffee, 真係滿份)

總括, 每一樣dishes都好好味, 用心做, 材料好, 新鮮. 細心. 加上服務一流, 只有一樣東西不是很完美的就是, house wine 唔太好. 其他選擇的紅酒又只有half bottle size.

Set lunch comprises about 6 choices, including lamb chop with mashed potato, duo fish with risotto, beef tenderloin, pork chop / loin, pasta, and big salad, and ranges from $140 to $180.

We ordered the salad instead of the vegetable soup as our starter, the lamb chop and duo fish as main course, the apple tart and symphony platter as dessert, as well as regular coffee and mocha as our drinks.

Bread basket = rye bread with walnut and cranberries + white French bread
- Subtle buttery flavor from the warmed French bread, and healthy-tasting rye bread. Yum!

Salad = smoked salmon cut up in small pieces mixed with veggie
- The freshness of the salmon, sprinkled with fennel, together with the slightly sour vinaigrette, generated a refreshing starter

Complimentary bruschetta topped with a small slice of tomato and some unknown topping (not black olive)
- Disappointing as the bruschetta had become soggy

Lamb chop on a bed of mashed potato
- While tender, it was bland despite the sauce (no salt) and the portion was quite small (2 piece without much meat)

Duo fish with vegetables (instead of the risotto)

Same as other diners, the main course wasn't as good as the other dishes. Waiting time was also long (30 min between starter and main course even though the restaurant was only 60% full).

Would I come back again Yes, only because it's for charity; otherwise I'd go try other restaurants given the price...

都係入番正題,講反有乜野食仲好啦!!! 依個sunday brunch安排上都幾好既,佢有個area係以buffet 形式出現,有甜品,泡芺,鮮奶果凍,朱古力噴泉(小朋友好鐘意用d士多啤梨點黎食!不過我就反而冇乜興趣),沙律,巴拿馬火腿,壽司,鵝肝小食等等,雖然選擇款式不多,但以整體食物質素取勝,而且refill既速度快,唔駛等好耐。除左有依d 自助食物之外,原來每人都會有個menu可以揀野食,有個welcome drink,可以揀sparkling water,紅酒,白酒同橙汁,不過係屋企人面前,唯有跟大隊飲橙汁!!! 之後可以揀個soup,有mushroom 同 onion 2款揀,聽個waiter講個onion唔係用牛肉整既,而係用雞定係乜整,不過我都唔係好記得啦!! anyway, 我就揀左mushroom飲,淡淡地都幾好味,不過同上次一樣都係份量唔夠多,唔多夠喉,之後main course有幾款你揀...羊膝,牛扒,魚同龍蝦pasta,我就揀左個羊試下,而其他親友就揀左牛同魚,反而冇人揀龍蝦,想試下都冇機會,依一點幾可惜。開頭以為個羊膝份量唔會大!! 你地都知,法國菜都係以精緻造型為主,點知一黎...個羊膝咁大既!!!肉質軟腍,好有羊味,食到我好飽!!!反而我見其他人食既魚同牛,個size冇我個羊膝咁大,搞到我都唔好意思偷黎食,anyway,由其他人口中講,d 牛同魚都幾好食,尤其係d 牛扒唔似一般貨色,可能係高價貨。不得不提一點就係依間餐廳做得幾好既就係waiter既service唔錯,快手快腳,有笑容。最後我地由12點幾1點食到3點先走,開心地度過左一個sunday afternoon,之後就去左睇戲了!

The restaurant decor was what I would describe as "chic-antique with a touch of neon", as you really can't miss the pink hue glowing from the bar, nor could you ignore the chandeliers dangling from a not-so-high ceiling. However, the place was comfortable despite being a little too dimly-lit, and the table lamp behind my bf's head meant that it was glaring into my eyes the whole night because i was seated opposite him.

The menu was simple but varied enough to satisfy most customers' requests. We went for the 3-course dinner which was reasonably priced. Mine was a king prawn with vegetables under a "cloud" of something or rather, and I also went for the bisque as I wasn't much of a dessert fan. My bf had the zucchini tart with Iberico jamon. When the waiter presented my "cloud", the dish tilted forward and part of the foam leapt out of the dish and landed on the table (and thankfully not on my lap!). He apologised profusely and promptly went to replace my dish, and judging by the speed of which he popped into the kitchen and back with another dish, I might take a guess that the chef just topped the foam and wiped down the dish, which is fine really, the food was still stacked intact and none of it was contaminated. The prawn was quite large but I couldn't see which was the head and which was the tail since it was all under cover, and the julienne vegetables were nowhere to be seen until you got to the bottom of the matter. The soup was nice but forgettable (hence the lack of a photo). The tart was moist and dense with a nice crust and base, and the ham was of average standard.

For mains, I went for the sea bass and scallops which was again covered in a blob of white sauce. The steak looked much more visible but I felt the slightly heavy-handed drizzling of sauce around it kind of took away its importance in the whole composition. But what really mattered was the taste, which was juicy tender and done to medium rare as requested.

Normally I'm not fussy about presentation (I mean, you don't criticise the food at a cha chaan teng or dai pai dong), but however this is meant to be fine dining, and everything counts. My overall comment would be that the dishes were tasty and the combination of ingredients worked well, but they need to par down their presentation a bit so that the visuals won't get in the way of the experience of enjoying the food.

Went with a friend to sample this place's food. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality, and the environment.

Positive note: The restaurant offers free corkage for the first bottle of wine, which is a big plus. After that corkage is $150.

Decor is modern, with clean lines and subdued lighting. Nice for a romantic dinner most nights (as long as there's no big group at another table.)

The menu offers several options for the size of the meal: 3 courses for $3xx, 4 courses (includes soup) for $4xx (both of these you pick the food) and a 6 course tasting menu for $600, where the chef picks the food for you. (Next time, I am going to try that one, because the chef in this place is clearly a guy who knows what he is doing!)

The food:

-- A complimentary "amuse bouche" was served first. This night, it was a tiny toast with fish roe (caviar) and a small slice of very fresh and flavorful tomato. Wow, a burst of flavor to start the meal!

-- I had the zuccini tartlet with Spanish ham on the side. Both bits (the tartlet and the ham) were delicious and full of flavors. I was drinking a glass of the house chardonnay with it, and the match was excellent. My friend had the nicoise salad, and reported it was excellent.

-- The mushroom soup with black truffle was rich and aromatic. It was served piping hot (which seemed to be a hallmark of this place -- the chef doesn't let his food get served lukewarm, which is great!)

-- I had the sliced veal tenderloin, which was a great recommendation from the maitre d'. The meat was tender and cooked just right. The pasta on the side was a bit lacking in zing, but still good. (Note to chef: more garlic!) My friend's seabass was good, but not "special," he said.

-- The chocolate dessert was wonderful -- a warm melty chocolate cake and little tartlet/chocolate rolls on the side. A moderate-size portion, which was a good thing, after the rest of the meal.

The staff was very welcoming and helpful, and when we asked for some recommendations, they gave us very good ones! At the end of the meal the price was quite reasonable ($500 each, not including a bottle of wine that we brought) for such a high-quality meal.

Highly recommended.

My elder daughter had the seafood pasta but both the clams on the dish had gone bad. We told the waiter who took it away to prepare another dish and the sous chef came out to apologise. I thought they were sincere and it is something that can happen to anyone. The second time they cooked her the same dish, the clams were fresh and the pasta wonderful as it was freshly made pasta and not dried pasta.
