I was wandering around in Central on a Monday night and somehow got attracted by stores selling Halloween costumes on Stone Slabs Street.  Of course, my stomach was calling at that time because I have just gotten off work.  So, behind the a store on Stone Slabs Street, I noticed much red light coming out from lanterns in the back.  When I found the lights were coming from S2, a Japanese restaurant, my hungry self immediately walked in without having second thought.The menu caught me by surprise

The signature dish here is the sea urchin combo in a wine glass.  The highlight here is sea urchin, of course.  It has layers of sea urchin from Hokkaido with blue fin tuna, white shrimp, scallop, fresh seaweed, and Japanese Spider Crab meat.  The size of this dish is not huge.  However, please keep in mind that it is the quality that matters, not quantity.

I then wanted a salad to refresh my taste buds, so the chef recommended the Japanese style mango salad.  This has apples that are sliced thinly with diced mangoes in coconut milk.  It also tastes Thai-like.

I was then ready for some rice.  The upcoming dish was salmon sushi wrapped by fish crisps.  This gave taste buds a new dimension of texture of sushi.  It was 50 times, of course, crunchier than the typical seaweed used for sushi.  Very unique and I liked it.

More sushi to come.  This one below has flaming hot fumes warming the dish.  This is a sushi roll with egg, cucumber inside, which can be quite typical.  Then this is topped with sea urchin and melted cheese.  Who can resist this combination?

One of the highlights is the baked oyster topped with roe and again sea urchin.  The oyster is covered by a thick layer of mayonnaise.  The aroma of mayonnaise paired with oyster is distinctively perfect.  The size of oyster (not the shell) was not bad.  It was about 4 inch.

Noodles are essential to have in a Japanese restaurant.  This noodles dish floating on dry ice is mixed with freshly squeezed Okra juice and also with a hint of light Shoyu in the background.  Topped with black Truffles paste and again here, topped with sea urchin.  You cannot lose with black Truffle paste.

I am a rather old-school guy.  So, it was the turn for me to try the sea urchin ice-cream, I had a bit of doubt if I would like it.  After putting the first spoonful in my mouth, my perception has completely turned around.  I can now say to others, "you will not know unless you try!"  The aroma of sea urchin was not strong here, but rather refreshing.  There are bits and pieces of sea urchin in the scoop while also topped with some.  Definite thumbs up.

Cannot leave this review without mentioning the chopsticks.  The holding part of chopstick is reusable.  It is good to see restaurants in HK doing what they can do be at least more environmental friendly.  Baby steps better than stepping backwards like some countries are doing.

開場便已十分吸引,我和朋友閃光燈不停,彷彿未見過世面,海膽已經佔了真個杯子的三分之一,光是外表已經是非常吸引了,還有其他引人入目的還有其他配角,包括拖羅蓉和三文魚籽,我慢慢的吃,舌頭快快的體會,這一口一口的還用得著去日本嗎?實在是人生一大享受!

沙律菜講究的其實不是什麼技巧,更多的是配搭和材料的新鮮,只要達到這2個要求,就已經很美味,再加上調料,更上一層樓了!廚師表演將日本玉琳蘋果薄切成紙張般,然後再切成條,爽趣清甜跟蟹籽很匹配!

服務員態度非常良好,收碟迅速。店鋪雖然座位較少,可是別具風格,很是溫馨!
