I've been looking forward to some simple and nice shanghainese food, but it does seem hard to find! I understand this place has 4 stores, I wonder if they've done any quality control. The Dan Dan noodle was super watery and their braised vegetable was so hard and tasteless. I didn't find anything I ordered here marginally good. I would not come back to any of its outlets this is hugely disappointing .

現在好少去跑馬地,但以前呢區都幾熟,今日喺附近做完嘢搵午餐食,以前食開嘅茶餐廳唔見咗,俾我搵到呢間好野,平實水準及價格,雲吞做得好,皮唔太薄有實在感,扎扎實實包住豐富的豬肉菜餡料,無需要花巧,我點的是紅油抄手,有紅油香口一點,不辣。呢間店的好處是可以貪心啲食多款組合,好似我今日咁又想食醉雞、又想食擔擔麵,唔係只得白飯同菜飯揀。醉雞肉滑皮爽,酒香夠,擔擔面醬汁濃,味道豐富,叫中辣都得,唔係四川嘅高辣度。見到紅燒肉菜飯好似好得,尤其嗅聞到醬汁嘅香,下次再嚟試。午餐送豆漿。

不知道為什麼,每次在跑馬地都喜歡到上海弄堂用餐,還不只一次帶朋友或家人來了。今天又來到跑馬地,又來到了這裡。熟架步的我循例看看餐牌就點了98元的1人套餐,+ 茗茶加$3,亦因為是星期六日的關係,另收加一。1人套餐 $98:小食中選了《菜肉雲吞4只》,湯底清甜,雲吞滑溜,入口咬開肉汁多很惹味。主食點了《蔥爆牛肉配菜飯》。菜飯多菜而且有油香,米飯有光澤而且粒粒分明有咬口。蔥爆牛肉賣相已經惹味,入口更加香濃,嫌小咸的話,拌菜飯一起食實在不錯。唯牛肉可以更軟腍的話就更佳。最後加5元點了豆漿,可選冷/熱,我卻選了暖的,幸好店員好客有禮不嫌棄我麻煩。

Not sure what to eat, I headed out and went to the bank where I  bumped into a couple of friends who I haven't seen in a while. We decided Shanghai Lane was just around the corner so that is where we headed to eat.


For those not familiar with the Happy Valley area, Shanghai Lane is on the side street right next to HSBC. It's smaller than the other branches. But I think it was the first branch. Gough Street, being the second one. However, this branch did undergo some renovation. It was once a bit old looking but now the decor matches the other branches.  So, it's now more modern and less of a Chinatown feel like before. It also has free wifi and I think that's why I come here a lot.

They have a la carte but during lunch session, they offer lunch sets at a very reasonable price. Menu is in English and Chinese. Lunch  sets come with a main and cold soy milk.

Wuxi Ribs with Vegetable Rice  ($56). My friend ordered this. The ribs were moist and had a nice balance of sour and savory at the same time. The sauce was rich and went well with rice.

Pork Chop with Dan Dan Noodles  ($59). My other friend ordered this. He felt it wasn't as spicy as he would have wanted. But the noodles  were chewy and pretty good. He said it reminded him of eating this in Chinatown back home in the US.

Pork and Bak Choy Dumplings  ($48).   I ordered this. You can choose any dumpling from the a la carte menu and make it a lunch set with a drink. So I chose this version as it is always my favorite from all their dumplings. I didn't want noodles and just had dumplings. There were about eight of them. The skin was not too thick and the filling was plump and delicious. A good ratio of meat to vegetable. I saw the staff wrapping them in the back so these are all made fresh from here and not shipped from some factory from who knows where. I'm unsure if the other branches do that? The only thing  I didn't like is the soup. It was way too salty. Usually, it isn't so but I don't know why it was on  this day.

Marinated Chicken with Yellow Wine Sauce ($75). We decided to share a plate of drunken chicken. It's always a favorite  of mine and my friend said he had never tried the one here. The chicken was great. The meat was still moist but had that firm texture that I like from it being a cold dish. The wine sauce was strong but not too strong that you get a bitterness from the wine.

A  nice little neighbourhood restaurant. The staff are friendly. The food is decent.  Prices  not expensive. I think that's why I come here for lunch when I don't want to fight the crowds in Causeway Bay.

很久沒有來過跑馬地, 襯星期六來擔朋友, 順便吃個簡單的中式晚飯。朋友提意到 , 貪其上菜快價錢經濟。我當然沒有太多意見, 反正我已光顧過位於天后、灣仔、中環區的分店, 基本水準也不俗。 今次來到跑馬地分店, 感覺這裡比較舊,面積比灣仔、中環區的分店細。 雲吞擔擔麵 $58菜肉雲吞菜多肉小,上海式雲吞皮相對廣東式的雲吞皮較厚, 口感同樣地滑。白菜完全無渣,味道亦調得夠,口感滑味道清新,全無油膩感。走辣後的擔擔麵,湯頭如常地濃稠,但明顯地花生醬香味不足。份量相當足, 吃一碗絕對令人有飽足感。 無錫骨 $82 半肥瘦排骨炆得相當入味,肉鬆骨酥,感覺油而不膩,  醋汁鹹中帶甜用來送飯一流。滷水牛鍵菜飯$68牛鍵賣相比相像中遜色,由於切得太薄所以口吃起來全無口感。 也嚐不出有滷水汁香味,實在令人失望。 幸好菜飯還合格,白菜絲和飯融合一體,粒粒分明但略欠油潤感。 茶錢$3/位 典型上海菜式,也是簡單的家常便飯,常吃也不會覺厭。

上星期去完朋友屋企搞完D野就食D野先返屋企。朋友屋企樓下選擇唔多,唯有揀D無伏之選呢間上海弄堂上次係灣仔食左一次,味道唔錯,再食!選抖都唔少,最緊要有菜飯食!人均消費100蚊左右。跑馬地黎講唔算貴嘅。點左個一人套餐$98呢個菜肉餛飩,感覺比較似餃子,入面有好多好多白菜,豬肉份量比較少。味道岩岩好,無咩味精。菜膽獅子頭每粒個size比較細,方便D食,味道咸咸地,但食得出個味道正宗,好香好濃。菜飯大大碗,菜同飯嘅比例大概係5:5,比例上好健康,飯粒井井有條,非常挺身。另外跟餐嘅豆漿,微微帶帶豆味,另有少少調味,唔會太甜。

最近黎左跑馬地呢頭探朋友,發現左呢間上海菜都幾驚喜一入去舖頭就好有上海嘅風味,尤其是啲職員我去嘅時候係夜晚7點幾,冇乜人堂食但就好多人黎買外賣。葱油撈麵,老實講其實我一次都冇食過,純粹係響menu度見倒有個手指公推介所以先叫嫁咋。最多都係食過即食果啲,所以一見倒咁多葱我都打左個突。一伸隻筷子落去撈嘅時候索索聲,原來啲葱係炸過嫁,個麵好香,雖然係葱油撈,但一啲都唔油膩。旁邊有提供辣醬,我覺得加左辣醬更加嘢味。菜肉餛飩,唔知道上海餛飩同我平時食開啲雲吞係咪唔同嫁呢,呢個餛飩睇落有啲似餃子。入面好多餡料,個皮一啲都唔厚。入面個餡出奇地入味,有小小似萬字醬油嘅味,但係又好香麻油香。小籠包睇落一啲都唔通透,不過食落又唔會覺得個皮好厚,入面出奇地多肉汁,一隻匙羹都唔夠,仲要多到滿瀉食完主菜仲有甜品,陣住層皮都睇倒湯丸入面啲黑芝麻餡有幾多阿!食落滿滿都係黑芝麻餡料好滿足睇得出呢度啲野食全部都好用心做,扺食夾大件。
