I have been to many Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong & Japan and in talking about the service attitude, this is the worst I have seen! And I think it's a shame for them to call themselves a "Japanese" restaurant as I don't think any Japanese restaurant will offer this kind of service.A friend of mine had reserved a table for five at 19:30 & one of us had arrived at 19:15 & I was there at 19:35 because it was pouring outside & the traffic was stuck. A friend of mine had reserved a table for five at 19:30 & one of us had arrived at 19:15 & I was there at 19:35 because it was pouring outside & the traffic was stuck. Once I was seated, a Caucasian waiter came & unfriendly briefed us that we should respect the restaurant & be on time. What he meant was ALL FIVE of us should be in the restaurant at 19:30 instead of just one or two. (Including us, the restaurant only got 5 patrons at that moment) And what I read from his face was we were not welcomed & a famous movie quote was appeared in my mind immediately: 華人與狗,不得內進!
We placed our order after the rest of our party arrived & the attitude of the Chinese staff who took our order was far from friendly & helpful too. I have no idea why the staff here were so snobbish & may be we were not their target customer. If this is true, may be it's better for them to post a note outside their restaurant & say Chinese is not welcomed. Also, they should remind the customer ALL of them must be on time when the reservation was made or notify the restaurant to postpone the reservation if the whole party cannot be on time.
In talking about the food, it was okay but no surprise. However, the most surprising point was they charged $10 for a cup of tea. It was a small & normal cup of tea which most of the Japanese restaurants in town would serve for free once the guest was seated. And the most impressive point was it's $10/cup, not per order! If one ask for a refill, they will charge another $10. If needs refill again, another $10.....
I highly recommend this restaurant to those who would like to have a different & unique dinning experience. Lastly, in order to get a politer service, I think may be it would be wiser for one to bring a foreign friend to there if one has. Or if one speaks Japanese, may be it's better for her/him to pretend her/himself as Japanese.
